"Supposed to" also as in the people who I heard mention it are all now still under 25, and when questioned about the situations they didn't have an answer, they didn't know a thing about the events they were talking about.

Naw, that's a fact. I know multiple people who said they weren't racist but that Tubby wasn't a good fit at UK because he's black. That is a fact.

 

Joker mentioned Preston LeMaster and that he apparently brought in transfer players as well. Does anyone have any knowledge of his sitution and where he is now?

 

Didn't LeMaster only last one season at I think it was East Ridge? Kind of disproves your point if so I think, but I'm not 100% sure I'm right about that.

 

And no, that youtube post and the talk on here have nothing to do with each other. Yes, there was a lot of talk last year about rival schools saying stuff to/about Cordia players, I remember all that, and some other incidents of ill will/violence perpetrated...and it was all bad and I believe everyone on here thinks that anyone involved in actions like that should be punished and are sickened by them. However, those terrible actions have nothing to do with this transfer talk, and has nothing to do with the color of Rhode's skin. Hasn't Billy Hicks been the target of this same kind of thread in the past? I know he has been on other boards. There was a LOT of outrage a few years ago when he got Dakota Euton and several other high profile transfers. Now, I wasn't on this board at that time so I don't know what was said about that specifically on here, but it was talked about a LOT, mostly in the negative. Someone also brought up University Heights and what they used to do in and around the years they won a state title, and stated that no one talked about them then. Couldn't be farther from the truth. I used to live down in the western part of the state, and let me tell you, their name was poison to a LOT of people down that way, and though they haven't been relevant for a while now, many people down there STILL have nothing good to say about that school and LOVE to beat them on the court. You have to remember, when they were doing all their damage message boards like this didn't really exist, and the internet itself was still in it's relative infancy. I bet dollars to doughnuts if you switched University Heights for Cordia in this thread, circumstances being exactly the same, the talk would be exactly the same. It would from me.

I only heard that from a few black people that want to bring up thinks that we're supposed to have happen before they were even born. I never heard it from an overwhelming majority of people, including all white people who ever talked about it when I was near.

 

I said it in 97 and I still say it, Tubby was doomed from the start, you can't follow a legend and high profile coach and succeed. When Calipari retires it will be very difficult for any coach have success with the fans. You want to be the one who follows the guy who followed the legend.

I'm no KY fan, so please don't mistake me for one...but wasn't Hall pretty much run out of town? Couldn't live up to "the legend" of Rupp. Was never appreciated the way he probably should have been while coaching. Only after he retired did fans start to endear themselves to him. Funny how people forget that.

And all this time I thought all he did was coach Kentucky for 14 seasons, winning 8 SEC championships, a NIT championship, 4 Final 4 Appearances, a National Runner-Up and a National Championship while being named SEC Coach of the Year 4 times and National Coach of the year. As far as being appreciated his banner is hanging in Rupp Arena and there is a life size bronze statue of him on campus. Just saying!!

Exactly. You just proved my point without knowing it. All that, and it STILL wasn't good enough at that time and he was run out of town. Many people wanted him gone, especially after the Georgetown loss in the final 4. I think it was greatly unfair to a good coach. people regard him warmly now...wasn't the case when he was coaching.

No, I think your point is that you are willfully overlooking that, as a coach, he's accomplished more than most in the area because that fits the bash Cordia agenda.

 

Are you really trying to compare a year or two of coaching at some small mountain school to being an assistant at UMass or Seton Hall? I would think that almost any college assistant could get any open high school job they wanted, hands down.

 

Criticize him for whatever you want, but the coaching experience one has absolutely no validity at all to me. How many head coaches in the state do you think would drop their job in a heartbeat to be an assistant at one of those schools?

So I'll ask again, please, someone tell us the facts in the case. 1) A new coach who has no head coaching experience is hired at a small high school. 2) A number of transfers come to the school (please give total number if you know) 3) The high school has dorms for transfers to be housed? Am I correct? Any facts missing?

Sorry if I mistook your "zero coaching experience" to mean zero "head coaching" experience. Not everyone wants to be a college coach, but I'm guessing that, if given the choice, it'd be a small minority that chose to remain in the high school ranks. College assistants in BCS conferences can make anywhere from $70-$150K in salary from the university alone. It just sounds like you are trying to say you think someone who coached at a Class A High School is preferable to someone whose been a college assistant in a BCS program.

Good point on the schools not wanting to be used as a stepping stone. Didn't know that Cox applied for the Dunbar job, but I'd imagine there could have been some financial and/or philosophical differences if he wasn't asked or didn't take the job.

 

As for his hiring, Rhodes' name was bounced around in connection with a few jobs Harlan Independent & Owsley County gave him some serious consideration. *(Tipton article). At the time, it seemed like there were a few more as well.
