Thanks for sharing that Joker -- that news report really casts a different light over this situation for me, especially as far as how they are being received locally. The chants of "USA" don't bother me, I would expect those. The burning Canadian flag is insensitive and dumb, but that doesn't push me over the top. However, the noose on the Canadian flag was sent / posted by someone who needs a beating. The vandalism and "shooting out a window" are serious crimes and do create a situation that sounds dangerously unsafe.

 

LB13 doesn't me or anyone else to speak for him, but I think you two were discussing the role of race from two different angles. He meant (again, I think, and if I'm wrong LB13, I apologize) that he didn't think the state-wide issue with international transfers, the KHSAA looking into it, or people wanting them to be investigated had anything to do with race. I agree with him. However, clearly, I see your point that at least locally, race is an issue with this!

Being a head coach, on any level, is far different than being an assistant coach. There is much more to deal with and the HC is the one who has to answer for the program, good and bad. It makes no difference where you coach...HC experience is invaluable. Plenty of coaches have coached at "big time" schools that flame out as head coaches. He might not be one of them but my whole point wasn't focused on his college coaching experience or how it compares to high school. It is the fact he has ZERO hc experience but obviously his connections, well, it is pretty obvious.

No, I think your point is that you are willfully overlooking that, as a coach, he's accomplished more than most in the area because that fits the bash Cordia agenda.

 

Are you really trying to compare a year or two of coaching at some small mountain school to being an assistant at UMass or Seton Hall? I would think that almost any college assistant could get any open high school job they wanted, hands down.

It's akin to not acknowledging that there some people who didn't like Tubby as the UK coach because he was black or not acknowledging that some people didn't vote for Obama because he was black.

Naw, that's a fact. I know multiple people who said they weren't racist but that Tubby wasn't a good fit at UK because he's black. That is a fact.

 

Joker mentioned Preston LeMaster and that he apparently brought in transfer players as well. Does anyone have any knowledge of his sitution and where he is now?

I only heard that from a few black people that want to bring up thinks that we're supposed to have happen before they were even born. I never heard it from an overwhelming majority of people, including all white people who ever talked about it when I was near.

 

I said it in 97 and I still say it, Tubby was doomed from the start, you can't follow a legend and high profile coach and succeed. When Calipari retires it will be very difficult for any coach have success with the fans. You want to be the one who follows the guy who followed the legend.

I never said that some view race as being an issue. But I do have issues when some people (not you), bring up race for a reason for certain things, without knowing the people making accusations or whatever.

on my iPad and trying to type fast as I have other things to do. "Supposed to happen" lumps the things that did happen as well as others, it doesn't mean that what supposedly happened didn't happen. "Supposed to" also as in the people who I heard mention it are all now still under 25, and when questioned about the situations they didn't have an answer, they didn't know a thing about the events they were talking about.
