The article was after quite a few posts, including some as far back as last year. Thanks for the compliment on the article though if it is something that gave readers more insight. In hindsight, I probably should have mentioned the number of other transfers in the 14th Region more explicitly.

 

I will say that based on what I know at this point in time, I'm not really bothered by what's going on at Cordia. I've never shadowed the players for a day or anything like that, but if they're being taken care of in the dorms, going to class, and playing basketball, I'm fine with it. If that isn't the case, then I'd feel differently, but don't know anything to the contrary, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Bottom line is that Cordia is 100% wrong with what they are doing and anybody that thinks these kids come to Lotts Creek to do anything else but play basketball had better take a serious look again at all the circumstances involved with this issue...totally wrong to the other teams in the region and all teams in the state of Kentucky....Just my very strong opinion!

If Rhodes were at Oneida Baptist and these players were transferring in to their dorms there wouldn't be one word said right now. A sizeable portion of OBI's students are transfers that live in dorms. They've had some good basketball teams in the past but never enough to overcome Clay County and the other 13th region usual powers.

I don't know if it was said or not but I remember years ago a teacher at Clay County said that Clay County coach Bobby Keith once said that if he had coached at OBI that he would already have 2 or 3 state titles, I suppose meaning that he would fill those dorms up with 6'8 students who happen to have some basketball talent as well as a quest for finding Jesus. OBI had and still has the perfect situation to do that and it being as legal as can be.

Rhodes wouldn't be finding himself at the center of all this controversy if he'd been fortunate enough to have had an opening at OBI. Of course, that is a private school. I believe Cordia started out years ago as a private school but was eventually adsorbed into the Knott County system.

From my understanding OBI has always cooperated with the KHSAA and abided by their rules and guidelines. The high school I attended is only 19 miles from Oneida and we played them most years. So I am familiar with that school.

And from what I know all of Cordia's players have been ruled eligible with the exception of one. I don't know what all the concern is from outsiders. Evidently the school has done what they're suppose to do in accordance with KHSAA rules. The point I'm making is there was never any concern at OBI for these dorm related transfers in the past. Why make it a big issue with Cordia now?

Sorry to spoil your fun, but my post has nothing to do with PCC or anyone else in that area. Just a statement of fact. ALL illegal transfer should be ineligible, be they in Eastern Ky. Louisville, NKY or anywhere else.

As long as they don't get too many? I'm feeling like Clay Co. would have had major beefs with OBI had they been knocking Bobby's Tigers out of the region on an occasional basis.

 

Cordia never does that to Hazard or PCC. That's why it's an issue.

Why should race matter? The only thing that should be stated is a good athlete transferred.

and if that is so I am glad that's the way it should be..... however consistently in treads posted about Cordia transfers have made reference to the kids, their families situations and their motivation. Being black I have heard them all before not to mention I have read not ONE negative comment about any other transfers. IT IS WHAT IT IS..... you may not feel that way but I assure you there are those that do..... It's sad what's really going on. Enough said.

 

And might I add that I am extremely grateful to those who are positive example and they have to date made this experience easier. There are those who have provided some serious life lessons. These KIDS and Coach Rhodes are strong and have presented themselves well, I am proud and pray they continue to do so.

Something that I kind of realize today given the number of questions about Cordia that have came up in this thread:

 

One of the reasons I've been defending them in both this thread and others is that three of Perry County Central's top four players for this season are transfers, two of which are apparently from Philadelphia, and at least two of Knott County Central's top four are transfers. Now, with that said, I would defend the kids at PCC and KCC just as much, but I think that understanding this would explain why I think it's somewhat one-sided when the only threads that are popping up are on Cordia (with the exception of the Justin Johnson ones last year, but I felt those came up when the situation became public).

 

Joker, do you not see the fallacy of using the other schools you mentioned in your argument? You have used PCC, KCC and in another thread NCC. In those, you have said X school has gotten 2 kids, or X school has gotten 3 kids over the course of 2 years, yet no one talks about them. Well, that may or may not be so (I remember a threads specifically naming the Movaes brothers a while back with some very nasty comments), and no I don't know the particulars in most of those other cases, but dude 2 kids coming in over 2 years DOES NOT EQUATE to 13 kids in two years...again that's the # I have seen reported having come into the Cordia program. I will compare it to an outbreak of meningitis. Lets say two kids at UK come down with bacterial meningitis. Bad stuff, might get a short mention on the local 6:00 news. 13 kids come down with it on UK's campus? It's the lead story on the national news. That's the difference. Lets have a little perspective here when comparing. And no, I'm not defending any other program who may have, through less than "legal" means (the R word comes to mind) come by other transfers with this post.

What difference does it make if it's two or a hundred? Why is it so egregious just because it's a few more, in a state where fishy transfers are rampant all across the Commonwealth? Why seize on this particular one?
