Cordia being investigated by the KHSAA?

Featured Replies

When you have an excellent basketball program with a winning record at a top notch school, you attract transfers. Right? :lol2:

I don't think it's just a "high school basketball" thing though.

Parents in Louisville see that schools like Manual, Male, Trinity, and St. Xavier have strong academic reputations. They want their kids to go there. It isn't like this is something that's some kind of an epidemic in one area.

Plenty of families buy homes in a neighborhood with one of the primary factors being what school district it means they'll be able to send their kids to.

How many times do you think young professionals get out of school, move in the middle of an urban downtown area to be close to work, then when it comes time to have kids, move out the the 'burbs or send them to a private school?

I don't know whether I get upset or just think that people are unaware of how there comments can be perceived. I have read a lot of post and it is amazing how people without authority are quick to place judgment on Cordia, the Kids attending Cordia and even the community in some cases. Even when most of the team is ruled eligible there is still complaint. I am so glad systems are in place or we would be hung off of the opinion of one. Come on the system is working; kids can play now we mad cause of what????? It can't be recruitment if they are eligible. LET IT GO!!!! Cordia play Saturday chose to support or not. I truly hope that the community actions are not representative of the comments made by many of you or they might be scared or realized they are in a worst place than where they came. You are adults and how would you feel if your kids were in positions of many of these kids. HOW WOULD YOU AS A PARENT FEEL??????? I have seen many kids move to accomplish their goals and dreams? I know many parents who have said if I could do it over I would have moved my child? I'm sure your kids are all perfect and you helped them all to achieve there goals and dreams without moving them. How many of your kids could have gotten a better opportunity if you had sent them out of state or out of district? Or does the angry/ frustration stem from angry for not having thought of it first.

All I am saying is it obvious many of you have no clue as to what you are talking about just making assumptions and running with them and feeding them to others; find the truth before making everyone guilty.

IN THE END IT'S ALL GOD"s PLAN AND HIS WILL AND THAT's ALL THAT MATTERS. Please remember you are the adult let your actions and words reflect that you never know who you are influencing or who's watching.

1st bolded. People have to be in authority to have an opinion or to question possibly violations?

2nd bolded. No, this isn't true. Absolutely someone can be recruited to a school and found eligible to play. Innocent and not guilty, to use legal terms, are not the same, but the outcome is, rightly or wrongly.

3rd bolded. Well, now you're kinda being a little snippy and doing what you accuse a lot of posters on here who have expressed their opinions of doing.

You have shared your story with us here about your and your son's particular situation, and we all hope he is doing well and this is a better situation for him. With that said, being so close to the program you just can't and don't have an unbiased opinion. You can't, and I understand that and should the tables be reversed and I was so close to a particular program and had a son playing I wouldn't have an unbiased opinion either.

I think what you are failing to realize as well is...this isn't just about Cordia. Cordia is just the microcosm of the bigger picture of potential rules violations in high school athletics as a whole when it comes to possible "recruitment" of athletes. If it's just brushed over and overlooked, regardless of what school(s) where it may be happening, then the problem doesn't get any better, it actually grows. Though I'm not comparing the two situations, but just look at the recent Fairview fiasco. According to those in the know, that situation was allowed to exist for a long time and it just kept getting worse. If there's going to be a rule, many of us just want everyone to follow the rules and applied and followed equally by everyone, that's all.

IN THE END IT'S ALL GOD"s PLAN AND HIS WILL AND THAT's ALL THAT MATTERS. Please remember you are the adult let your actions and words reflect that you never know who you are influencing or who's watching.

I'm just curious if a fat kid with thick glasses from a rough part of Toronto would be afforded the same opportunities????

Aren't there foreign exchange programs for a fat kid with thick glasses from a rough part of Toronto to participate in?

A couple of questions:

How did all of these kids that have come into the basketball program at Cordia find this little school in the hills of Eastern KY???

How many students lived in the dorms in 2011?

How many students lived in the dorms in 2012?

How many students live in the dorms in 2013?

I'm just curious if a fat kid with thick glasses from a rough part of Toronto would be afforded the same opportunities????

If it were my high school, yes. We usually had a foreign exchange student each year for a long period of time and I never remember any playing sports. They were good students though. They probably even had more opportunities because there was nothing restricting people in the community from giving them things the way there would be with athletics.

A couple of questions:

Sorry, I must keep forgetting how different that is.

Don't know how many students lived in the dorms each year and not sure what that really matters. Schools try to fill their dorms to their carrying capacity if I were guessing. They were either full then and are still full now, or they weren't full then and are getting more occupants now, which is probably helping the school more than them sitting empty.

I'm not really concerned about how the kids heard about "that little school in the hills of Eastern Kentucky" and don't think you really understand the attitude that others might see you as presenting when you say things like that. How do kids in the Northern Kentucky area hear about a "tiny school in a section of a place like Newport??? Why would anyone want to go to Newport??? Something must be going on if you can get anyone to move into Newport." See how it sounds when I say that?

On one hand, you seem to imply that there's no reason anyone would ever want to go to Eastern Kentucky when there's another option available because there's just nothing there and it's such an awful place. Then on the other hand, you seem to imply that Cordia does something to try to make themselves more attractive to students and build up a reputation that makes kids want to go there and criticize them for it.

I heard people move to Newport because they hear LB13 lives there. But then again an equal number also move away because of that, so in the end it's a wash.:lol2:

I remember reading, somewhere on line, a comment made when Rhodes became the coach there, people were excited about the possible players he might bring in (and just how does this work?), and the comment was made that "the dorms at Lotts Creek are gonna have to open again"! I read somewhere along this same time regarding the same subject that the dorms had not been used there for quite some time/had been shuttered for years. if that's the case, then obviously people from Canada and NJ and TX weren't clamoring to go there for their outstanding science and engineering programs over the past several years.

Also, though we refer to it as Cordia as does the KHSAA, the official name on the website is Lotts Creek Community School. By gosh that's an awful big community they are growing there, reaching all the way north to Canada and southwest to places in TX. I hope they are collecting taxes from all those residents. They should be able to build Yum Center II with all that tax base. Said with tongue...planted firmly...in cheek.:sssh:

How many starting guards transferred into NCC in 2012? 1, but left mid-season. Could have been 3, the 2 for 2013 were on there way to the "hill", but had to wait till this year.

How many starting guards transferred into NCC in 2013? 2, BOTH catholic parents moved family to Campbell Co.

Sorry, I must keep forgetting how different that is.

Actually live in Bellevue, "funny man". :lol2:

Thus the reason for asking the questions in post #36.

I think my questions are legit.

No problem. Enjoy the playoffs.

My whole point with asking the starting guard thing was that I find it ironic that someone whose Avatar supports a school whose happened to get three starting guards in a two year period is calling transfers into another school into question. With a unique lineup each year, you could have 10 starters total and one school has gotten 3 of them (and has had some of the same kids who've started in both of those years).

I don't think anyone would care if these were students who played basketball and were even just average. I've said a million times that no one is complaining about OBI, which has tons of out of state or international students in their dorms. No one is on here talking about how OBI's kids should be excluded from the KHSAA, even though some are great at sports like soccer and cross country. If we're being realistic, let's face it, the only reason anyone cares is because they are good and might take someone else's spotlight.

I find it funny that no one is complaining when some white kids move to a Catholic school, but when it's some black kids going to a non-public everyone is losing their minds. Those white kids are just fine because they must have wanted to go to where they went because it's a good school after all and they really care about their academics. Those kids, their parents moved them and they must pay more than their share of taxes, right? Oh yea, we'll give them the assumption that their parents can easily pay for that private school everyone in the area knows about and never call that into question too, even though it's been mentioned tons of time for the black kids (after all, we seem to assume the latter's parents paid more than their fair share of taxes and don't mention anything about that; weird, it seems like it is assumed that they probably pay a ton in taxes and still have all kinds of money to send their kids to private school too).

Let's not act like this isn't the case with all the "do they get scholarships???"" and "I don't want my tax money going to…" posts when other posts have talked about kids going to "good" schools that seem pretty expensive for parents just to up and send two kids to, especially after something expensive like moving, with no questions asked. Maybe those schools aren't as good as we think they are or they could charge more or maybe they are getting some kind of "aid" like plenty of other people who regularly go there, but I've never thrown out that assumption because I don't know and really don't care. I'm just pointing out how it seems to be a double standard if we're looking at it objectively.

Fact of the matter is, this is just as realistic as anything else if we're all worried about realism.

Joker brings up a good point about OBI. I remember back in the late '70's OBI had some really good teams. They had a kid named Ben Franklin who was about 6'6 and could jump out of the gym, a dunking machine. And his teammate was a player named Caldwell, and he was about 6'7 and was a very good player. They just didn't have great guards to go with them or they could have made life rough on the usual powers in the 13th. Both of these kids had transferred to OBI and lived in dorms. But I can't remember anyone making a big deal about it back then. Maybe it was because OBI never could put together enough talent to offer a serious threat to Clay County and the other region programs. We at Owsley County played the Mountaineers every year and we didn't think anything about their transfers.

Another point, University Heights Academy had won a ton of All A state championships and one KHSAA state championship, mainly on the back of high profile D-1 type transfers who have gone on to excel at the next level. I realize they were put on probation once, but for the most part they've competed with transfers for years. Why now so much outcry over Cordia? Is the KHSAA going to go back and say, "We made a mistake allowing these transfers to be eligible at UHA all those years and we've now decided to take away their wins and titles."

And by the way, when fencing was a KHSAA sanctioned sport back in the '60's and '70's, OBI won several state championships, mostly with transfers who lived in their campus dorms. Might as well take those titles, too.

I don't recall ANYONE bringing race into the mix, these kids could be as white as chalk....I don't care, i'd still ask the same questions. I am just asking simple questions and looking for a simple answer, that's it.

Everyone's response to my questions in "defense" only makes it seem...........:idunno:
