November 1, 201312 yr I'm less concerned about Dalton than with the Bengals receiving corps having an unbelievable case of the drops tonight. Any one of a number of drops goes for a completion and I really don't think this game even goes to OT. And letting Wake get through on that safety was rough for whichever lineman that was' date=' but it was Smith I watched miss a number of blocks throughout the game that made life awful difficult for Dalton.[/quote'] Drops were pretty bad tonight. Really could've been a different outcome with a couple of those DROPS being converted instead. That's what makes a tough road loss like this hard because although the Bengals played really not very well they still had a chance to win the entire game.
November 1, 201312 yr Great night to be a Dolfan! As a Dolfan lifer, I don't get many of these moments since Dan retired Guess this win makes my fish the Champs of Ohio having beat all the Ohio teams :dancingpa
November 1, 201312 yr Run the ball on 3rd and 5 on that last 4th quarter drive and there is no OT. Another blown clock management situation by Marvin/coaching staff. That is where I thought the game was lost. Playing for a 54 yard field goal and leaving the Dolphins 1:30 to work with. The next thing was no blitzes on the Dolphins last drive until they got in field goal range. Which was it guys? Obviously they weren't playing for a 54 yard field goal, since they did line up to pass the ball on that third down. They definitely were trying to get closer. Hindsight is 20/20 since we know he made the kick. If the Bengals ran the ball and got stuffed, and then missed the 54 yarder, and then Miami would have had great field position. People would then say as Voice of Reason just said, they shouldn't have just settled for the 54 yarder. No problem with the decision to throw there. Nugent has played great lately, but for his career he has struggled beyond 50 yards.
November 1, 201312 yr Basically this game just sucked. I love the confidence that Dalton is playing with now, and overall he had a really good game except for 4 plays. The bad thing is all 4 of those bad plays ended up being HUGE plays that killed them. I agree with what Hammertime said, I am more worried about the injury to Atkins. That would be a huge loss if he is done for the year.

My problem was the ultra conservative run plays on 1st and 2nd down where they were obviously trying to kill time and not trying to make plays. They were just trying to run clock and make the Dolphins use time outs.

I have no problem with them passing on the 3rd down play but you don't lob a deep ball that has a lower percentage chance of being completed. You either run so Miami uses their last time out or you throw a high percentage pass to get the first down (4-5 yards would do it). Dalton, IMO, did not play near as bad as people will bash him for in this game. Way too many drops, a bad call or stupid hold on Gresham that negated the Jones TD (which the pick 6 came right after that call), and the offensive line playing a poor game after being stellar the last few games. The first Dalton INT was part his fault and part AJ's for not coming back to the ball. The second was all Dalton for throwing behind receiver that ended up in pick six. The third was a perfect throw in coverage that Sanu doesn't catch. The fumble can be contributed to the O-Line as much as Dalton. He didn't play great but surely not all that bad. This is type of game that gets you a 3 or 4 seed versus a 1 or 2 seed and a bye the first round. Just can't give games away.
November 1, 201312 yr That game was exactly why it's hard to trust the Gals. Dalton with a few bad plays that hurt them. Marvin being Marvin. Gruden being Gruden. Not trusting Nugent to make a 56 yarder when you trusted him 10 minutes earlier from 2 yards closer in the exact situation. I'm not going to bash Dalton b/c Thursday night road games are tough. Too many drops. Bad luck or a bad call on the Gresham hold. However now he's not going to get the help from his D he's used to. He's going to have to win some games like he did all of October before yesterday.
November 1, 201312 yr The Bengals need home field advantage throughout the playoffs. If they get that they'll go to the Super Bowl. Two different teams.

The bad thing is all 4 of those bad plays ended up being HUGE plays that killed them. I agree with what Hammertime said, I am more worried about the injury to Atkins. That would be a huge loss if he is done for the year. Thats like saying a guy who throws 6 Int's in one game, that he had a really good game except for 6 passes. Having 4 turnovers isn't a good game no matter what you try and say. The problem with this game is the fact that it really didn't surprise some of us. They played the best and most complete game they've played in years this past Sunday and too many of us were hoping they turned the corner as a team and franchise, but at the same time we kept our fingers crossed behind our backs because we've seen total flip flops with the Bengals for decades and were just hoping this year would be different. Unfortunatley it's not. With that said, it doesnt' mean they aren't a good team or they won't make the playoffs, it's just that the team some thought they finally have become is not the team afterall but instead they at times become the same old Bengals they've been for a long long time. It's just frustrating getting your hopes up only to have them dashed at the end again. As far as the game, Dalton took serious steps back AGAIN. Last Sunday was just like the 1st week of the season, Dalton looked like he progressed really well when it came to his passes down field only to regress back to not being able to hit the side of a barn in week 2 and last night. Dalton hasn't inmproved when he keeps going back to the issues that plagued him forever. I hope he plays like he's unconscious like Sunday more times than not, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for him to do it.
November 1, 201312 yr The two picks the one to Green was not Greens fault it was an out route, same for the pick six. At least top to me they looked like out routes. WR's do not come back to the ball on out routes, the passes were bad throws behind the receivers.
November 1, 201312 yr Didn't see the game. Joe Dannemann tweeted after the game a player walked into lockerroom and shouted "why didn't we kick an adjective field goal in overtime?" Anyone know what he was talking about?
