Dolphins 22 Bengals 20

Featured Replies

They punted instead of attempting a long FG in OT. It was a mistake.

Looked it up. Would have been from about 56.

The Bengals need home field advantage throughout the playoffs. If they get that they'll go to the Super Bowl. Two different teams.

Agreed.

And Nugent kicked one from 54 to put the Bengals up 20-17 with 1:38 left in the game. That like had enough to be good from 60 yards out easily.

Not to get lost in the shuffle, that 2nd TD by Gio was nasty! Hopefully his ribs are okay.

Outside of Gio and Nugent, the entire team was atrocious.

Dalton threw some really poor balls, AJ couldn't catch anything, Gresham is a waste of a roster spot, and the defense is about to become terrible with the loss of Geno.

This game pretty much exemplified Cincy professional sports.

Yeah, that's all you heard Mayock talk about..."he crushed it".

I have no problem with them passing on the 3rd down play but you don't lob a deep ball that has a lower percentage chance of being completed. You either run so Miami uses their last time out or you throw a high percentage pass to get the first down (4-5 yards would do it).

Dalton, IMO, did not play near as bad as people will bash him for in this game. Way too many drops, a bad call or stupid hold on Gresham that negated the Jones TD (which the pick 6 came right after that call), and the offensive line playing a poor game after being stellar the last few games.

The first Dalton INT was part his fault and part AJ's for not coming back to the ball. The second was all Dalton for throwing behind receiver that ended up in pick six. The third was a perfect throw in coverage that Sanu doesn't catch. The fumble can be contributed to the O-Line as much as Dalton. He didn't play great but surely not all that bad.

This is type of game that gets you a 3 or 4 seed versus a 1 or 2 seed and a bye the first round. Just can't give games away.

Agree. Agree. Agree.

They're not getting home field through out the playoffs.

I know. I was making a comment based on how well they play at home and how crappy they play on the road. 4-0 at home. 2-3 on the road.

While I agree, that's pretty par for the course for most NFL teams. If you look at their road record since Dalton became the starter, they're actually very good away from home.

Not this year they aren't. Beat the Pats and Packers at home. Lose to the Browns and Dolphins on the road.

Paul Daugherty nails it when talking about Dalton's night in today's column:

Andy Dalton wasn’t brilliant-good, as he’d been the last three weeks. But he was good when he needed to be. Third down after third down in the second half, Dalton completed passes to extend drives.

That offset the fact Dalton threw three interceptions and lost a fumble. Good Andy occasionally meets up with Bad Andy, sometimes in the same game. Such as Thursday night.

Bad Andy showed up in spurts. After three games of Good Andy -- good decisions, good field vision, good use of all his toys -- Dalton didn’t have it consistently under the Thursday night lights. He threw three interceptions. He was stripped of the ball. It happens.

The pick 6 was a really bad throw. Besides that, the throws that bother me more than any other is Dalton trying to throw the fade and throwing the ball out of bounds. The whole thought behind the fade is throw it up and let your receiver get it. Dalton throws those out of bounds and the receiver never has a chance to make a play.

That being said, there were far too many bad plays by a lot of people and the coaches to hang this all on Dalton.

Here's the question I have....When the Bengals had it with roughly 1:35 in the 4th at the Miami 35, they called a timeout before 3rd down. Did they call the timeout as the play clock was expiring or right after the 2nd down play ended?

I think Miami called time out there. Miami called time out following 1st and 2nd down to save time on the clock.
