I agree, they kinda got the shaft out of the blue is would seem. I can't see anything that changed that would have caused pollsters opinions to change but if I were Caldwell this would be used as a tool to prove they should be 1

I agree with those of you who say it doesn't seem fair to Caldwell to drop. Unfortunately, there really isn't anything more they could do with the schedule they have than what they have already done. I think DeSales has played a much more difficult schedule and been more impressive in the way they have gone undefeated against that schedule. My guess is if we look at the computer rankings, DeSales is ahead of Caldwell in all of them. I don't automatically agree with the computers but that does tell us something 6 games in. All we can go by is your record and your schedule. DeSales is more impressive at game 6.

I wouldn't worry about it. The best thing about high school football is the playoffs. Settling it on the field. Even if it was the BCS in 2A you guys would get to play in the championship.

How different are these 2, Caldwell and DeSales, from last year? It seems they both have several core players back from last year, when Caldwell beat DeSales at DeSales. Have any of DeSales opponents brought a wide open passing attack to the table this year?

I get where you are coming from but look at Caldwell and DeSales' records this season and a very good case could be made for either team to be in the #1 spot.

The better wins definitely belong to DeSales. They may have also played the weakest team of the group in Washington Co. And as someone said, Caldwell Co's best wins don't look quite as good as they did as the season goes along. I'd say just based on this, I have no problem with DeSales at #1. Good thing is, if they both keep winning, we will get to find out who the best one is, so there won't be this debate.

 

I haven't seen them play, but from what I am hearing, I think Murray might be too low. I think NCC (sorry LB13) is probably too high based on their performance to date. If/when they heal up and get some key players back on the field I'm sure they will be back in the mix.

I don't think Caldwell should have been drpped but when DeSales is arguably the #2 team in 5A and then that spanking they put on Bardstown, I can see why they are now #1.

 

Fortunately at some point it will all be settled on the field.

In my opinion Desales deserves #1 solely based on their resume right now. A win over a John Hardin team that lost to Highlands by 7? That's a pretty good win. Maybe I'll put CC higher if they pull off a win against Mayfield though. But as of right now, the #1 and #2 is right. At this point it has to be the strongest resume.

They have had a TON of injuries and I believe had 8 or so starters out in the Dixie game, LB13 could probably correct me on that if I'm wrong, also were missing several for the SK game, so I know we probably have not seen them at their best.

I think it is DeSales "passing them up". As the season progresses each team is taking care of business - no one is dropping - as John Hardin moves up the 5A rankings that DeSales win becomes more and more of a factor in voters opinions.

Dixie game......NewCath played without a dozen players. That included seniors Stephen Brooks, Matt Lenz, juniors Brandon Gray, Jacob Wieland, Logan Neff and sophomores Luke Kues, Nick Tolle and Ethan Craig. But no NewCath players are out for the year. “We had four kids that could have played if it was a playoff game,” Wagner said. “We can’t afford to run that risk. The doctors recommended we didn’t play them. They should be back next week. We had seven starters on the sidelines. Four are two-way starters.” This was a 14-7 Dixie halftime score.

 

Simon Kenton.....much the same, but nowhere near 12 players.

 

Hopefully a full and healthy squad come playoff time. I'm definitely not counting them out of another title run, however they need to get everyone healthy and playing to get back on track, this will be key.

The rankings speak more to DeSales than Caldwell County. DeSales beating a top 10 team in Bardstown 55-7 is much more impressive than beating unranked Ballard Memorial 63-28.

 

When ranking teams, you have to look at the overall -- not just margins and points scored. The average Lit rating of the six teams DeSales has beaten is 81.7. The average Lit of the 6 teams Caldwell has beaten is 80.2. Pretty close. But DeSales has shut out three of their opponents and held four of the six to a TD or less. It's about the overall.
