Trinity or St. Xavier? Which team should be Preseason #1?

Featured Replies

If you have to beat the champ to be the champ or if we go on recent history we may have to go with Trinity.

If we go on paper (as in Paper Tiger) or overall excitement of the collection of talent and the new coaching staff we may have to go with St. Xavier.

Again I ask, which team should be Preseason #1? Why?

You don't necessarily have to beat the champ to be crowned #1 the next season. Eg 2008 preseason college football rankings. There is a multitude of factors that go into the equation.

If we're talking 6A specifically, you have to go with Trinity. If we're talking about the state in general, however, I think we all know that answer is "neither." :thumb:
So your saying Bowling Green is #1 overall in the State?

I've always believed in order to be the champ you have to beat the champ. In this case if X wants to be #1 they have to beat T in November.

What is the point of this, really? Trinity has been on an amazing run but lost an absurd amount of talent to graduation. St. X appears to be loaded but has a brand new coaching staff. I am sure that T and X will be tough to handle come November.

I think it's time for a change in the state of Kentucky. I go X

Something to talk about. We still have another week+ to wile away before we finally have scrimmages to discuss.

The best thing about preseason rankings is that they will soon be over.

Most have been jabs at X though. Mainly from T folk.

I am not taking jabs at either program, I am asking a honest/serious question???

X fans certainly are sensitive.

As defending champs I think T deserves the number 1 ranking preseason. While they lost a ton they obviously are a team that simply reloads. X seems loaded for bear this year and they will have time to state their case once the season starts.

I think the #1 preseason ranking automatically going to the defending champ should only apply in the pros. X makes a legitimate argument and claim for #1 based on what they have returning. Highlands makes a legitimate argument and claim for #1 as well with their talented and heralded senior class. All we have for Trinity is they are the defending champs. From where I sit the uncertainty of X's new coaching staff is intriguing and we really can't gauge Trinity/Highlands until their scrimmage that doesn't mean anything takes place. On that note, I have no clue who should be #1 but I have seen superior talent win out most of the time. For now it seems that X has that talent. I'll throw them a bone and give them the #1 preseason ranking. If Trinity had more of last season's players returning it would be much easier to give them the preseason #1 nod.

Most "in state" folks are sticking with Trinity but on a national level St. X is getting the nod. That's my observation. I'd say the gap is as close as it has been in a long while. If the game were played today I'd say neither team would be favored by more than 3 points.

Not you guru.
