I watch the Food Network semi-regularly, and I'll admit to having some irrational dislike for some of the chefs/cooks on the show. My dislike for Paula Deen has been based primarily on her over-the-top southern accent that comes and goes whenever she decides she needs to turn up her southern charm, and little more than that. I'll also admit, I thought it was humorously ironic that this purveyor of sugar, salt and fat revealed that her diabetes diagnosis came within months of her children's cookbook being released wherein she urged kids to eat things like cheesecake for breakfast, chocolate cake and meatloaf for lunch.

 

However, I agree with Clyde. Firing Deen was a business decision on the Food Network's part. She was bad PR for their network, so they canned her, as is their right.

What a joke! She gets fired for admitting she used the n-word a long time ago and in one incident it was a private conversation with her husband. Show me a person of any color who says they have never in their life used the n-word in one form or another and I will show you a liar.

 

It was a lot more than that, her and her son just recently had been in hot water for racist comments made at their restaurant to some of their employees etc. It apparently is an ongoing issue with her.

 

The Network has every right to do what they wish and keep who they want, Paula Deen brought all this on to herself.

The question is rhetorical. Alec Baldwin is a liberal elite. They live by different standards. Therefore, Baldwin’s profanity-laced threat to beat up a “little queen” was mostly ignored by the “mainstream” media.

 

Paula Deen (she lost a book deal and two more sponsors Friday) continues to be excoriated in the media for something she said decades ago. Don Imus was fired for referring to “nappy-headed” girls on a college basketball team. Rush Limbaugh lost sponsors for calling Sandra Fluke a “slut” (for which he subsequently apologized).

 

Yet arrogant Hollywood elites like Alec Baldwin go virtually unchecked – and suffer no consequences for words and actions that would get anyone else fired – as pointed out by John Ondrasik of the musical group “Five for Fighting”, who tweeted a simple truth today:

 

“If Alec Baldwin was a righty he’d never work in Hollywood again.”

 

CNN’s Anderson Cooper asked (rhetorically as well, I’m sure) why Baldwin gets a free pass after making such a hateful statement:

 

“Why does #AlecBaldwin get a pass when he uses gay slurs? If a conservative talked of beating up a “queen” they would be vilified.”

 

Ondrasik was right. Cooper knows the answer to his own question. And sadly, it was mostly “crickets” today in non-response to Baldwin’s latest little temper tantrum.

 

So, Alec Baldwin’s “f-word”-laced Twitter tirade against the “little queen” who had allegedly committed the unforgivable sin of tweeting that Baldwin’s wife was tweeting during James Gandolfini’s funeral service will go unpunished – as has all of his childish behavior in the past.

 

Too bad; if I were head of Capital One, I’d fire this spoiled bully in a New York minute.

 

Meanwhile, Paula Deen will continue to pay. Literally.

Given the recent events, the incident with former employees and now this most recent event, seems to me she's a racist and has slipped up a few times. Now it's biting her in the rear. JMO.

The truly piece of crap in all of this is her brother. He has said and done 1000x more than she has. He deserves to be sued and lose everything he has. I think that the biggest reason she was brought in on the suit is because she has MUCH deeper pockets than her brother does. They Co-owned some restaurants together and he was a Donkey-butt, a womanizer, a bigot and a racist by nearly all accounts.

Perhaps more of a trump card than political ideology, or at least one just as strong, is the fact that he's a bigger star than all those aforementioned people. He might also get a pass because of the over-the-top nature of the character he always seems to be in.

 

Not excusing the guy. Just saying there are additional factors to consider beyond how much he might donate for "the cause."

Food Network's parting was not over just one issue. This is the one that put it over the top. The past diabetes/cookbook issues along with her sailor's mouth at live gatherings with kids present presented PR problems for the network and this was one they just didn't want to battle anymore.

Alec Baldwin his a key endorser of many products like Paula Deen. I guess he could be stripped of those.

 

It is a business decision and I am fine with that. I do get a kick out of the Holy Art Thou moral police in the world that pick and choose their victims (using that term loosely) to pounce upon. I just want to know all the people who really get offended by all of this crap.

What we need to do is get Paula Dean to make a batch of Sheweety Balls with Alec Baldwin on an HBO special with Bill Mahr with special guest tasters Jessie Jackson and Ron and Rand Paul. THAT would be some show.

Comedians always have more leeway.

 

They do and they probably should. Jamie Foxx got away with joking about how great it was that his character in Django Unchained got to kill all the white people.
