Tough year up on the hill . . when was the last time both NCC's boys' and girls' teams were out this early? When was the last time they were both out before both Brossart teams were out?

 

I only ask because my kids go to St. Joe's and I'm trying to decide where to send them to High School

 

Simple answer, send them to Brossart because they will get a better education.

What a fun game to watch...With work and other stuff, don't get to see much basketball these days. I was very entertained last night. Number 3 for Holmes is fun to watch, as was 34 I believe for NCC. Someone said both are 10 graders, wow. It looked to me like 34 got tired late in the game, wasn't getting off the floor like he was early, and shot seemed short. 23 I believe it was for Holmes was key late, he looked very fresh and determined. Look forward to Saturday, hopefully it will match last night.

I think you can get a valued education at either school. You get out what you but in. But sports wise, if you have no NewCath connections I would send the child to Brossart it seems as if you have to be well connected to get playing time in the NewCAth system

Those two guys are great kids from GREAT families. Their leadership will be missed next year.

 

I wonder how many of these points/rebounds came late in the game (final 3 or 4 minutes) when Holmes had already seized some control of the game by going up 10 points. I didn't think either showed up for the first 3.5 quarters of the game.

 

I am sure Seibert and Beuter are great kids and provide wonderful leadership, however, for the second straight year they disappeared in the regional tournament game that the Breds lost.

 

In my opinion, McDonald was the only one who really showed up for the Breds tonight. In the 4th quarter, I do agree he may have been worn down a bit, but give Holmes credit for sagging off other Breds and playing help defense on him, not allowing him to get the ball down low like he did the previous 3 quarters. It seemed he had to go out further and further to get his touches.

 

Key for NC was no points from Drew McDonald in the 4th after he dominated the 3rd qtr. Credit Holmes for some of that.

 

I take back whatever I said about Drew's post game. He showed me a left hand tonight that I had never seen. If he gets that going you can't stop him in the post.

 

I told Schulte after the game he can be a dominant 9th region player next year. It's up to him. He has everything you're looking for.

 

Add in Weyer and no team in the 9th will have a frontcourt to compete with those 3.

 

Thank you for coming around Clyde! After watching more than a few games for each NCC and Holy Cross, I think Drew is the best big man in NKY with Campbell a close second. He has some very nice moves down low and is very fundamentally sound. Congratulations Drew on a great sophomore season with All A State MVP, District MVP and I am sure All Region Team. I am sure I am missing other awards as well, however, congratulations on coming up big for the Breds this year.

 

I think Schulte needs to be more consistent in his game. If I'm not mistaken, a lot of his stats came late in the game as well.

 

When you have three starters not show up, it is going to be tough to beat a good team like Holmes.

Beuter hit a 3 early in the second quarter I believe. On the next Holmes possession he picked up his second foul and sat the rest of the half. After that, he just didn't seem like he could get into any rhythm until it was too late.

If that is a factor look at the results of the games the 2 schools played. NCC girls win twice easily and the boys win their game easily. As far as where kids go to high school I think that should be primarily their decision.

Foul trouble had a lot to do with Schulte's production...Holmes had a smart game plan in not defending him past the free throw line. He killed them with offensive boards and back door stuff off the pick and roll in game one.

It has been a real pleasure reading these posts as all have been positive, related to the game, and no mention of how the refs affected the game. As it should be.

Grant is an excellent coach. He wasn't at his best last night. He made one adjustment in the game - pound it to McDonald - and rode that horse to a loss.

When he didn't get the ball inside to McDonald, NCC didn't score.
