Holmes 55 Newport Central Catholic 50 9th Region

Featured Replies

I agree TOG, great turnout tonight, thinking more like 5500, but no need to split hairs. I will tell you that the traffic situation getting into the BOK center is terrible, a number of folks, including my car full sat in traffic for the better part of an hour, first rate facility, second rate planning / parking.

Was that the largest crowd to ever see a 9th Regional Tournament game? I have to think so. The officials at the arena thought about 7000

New Cath needs to stick to their little All A classic tournament. Playing those class A teams like Latin School, Ludlow, Villa etc.

This Free Trial Offer thing was a Baaaaaaaddddd idea.

The only crowd I've seen bigger than tonight was when they had the 9th/10th region boys finals DH a few years ago and Mason County brought a lot of fans.

Congrats to the Bulldogs for winning the game that mattered.

Big congrats to the NCC boys for a phenomenal year winning 30 games and an All A State Championship. Best of luck to the Srs.

Holmes is clearly the best team up here. New Cath was way way overated. Better team won. Holmes came out of the toughest district in the state. Holmes, Holy Cross and Cov Cath were all better than New Cath. Had they won tonight Cooper would have beaten them, Cov Cath would have beaten them AGAIN. Decent team but about the 5th best in the region.

wa wa are you serious!!!!!! NewCath overrated. If Newcath and Holmes played 10 times they would both have won 5. NCC destroyed Holy Cross, beat Holmes and lost to CovCath by 2. Nothing overrated about going 30-3, ashland tournament champions, All A regional Champs, All A state champs and losing to a very good Holmes team in the region. No way on this planet that Cooper would have beaten NCC in the semifinals.

I thought the 4 teams shot poorly tonight. I was thinking that they need to have a first rate tournet in the place over several days with the best from the 9th and the rest from out of state to get these kids some time in that size of facility. You could pack it next year with Holmes, NCC, Cooper, and CCH forom the 9th plus maybe Scott co., Mason Co., Collins and a Louisville top 5 team (just suggestions). That would be fun. But I digress, sorry.

Wa Wa is taking his driver's test next week, don't stress him or her.

I made a bet with JMU31 and lost, my new avatar and location will remain for a week.

Congrats to the Dawgs on playing a better game than the Breds, good luck in the semi's. Bolden with another "awesome" game, as well as, Drew McDonald. Breds just could not knock down the outside shots and got out-played on the glass. Still baffled why the Breds didn't go inside more often? The charge calls on Schulte were "big", not only does he pick-up two fouls but you take 4 pts. off the board.

All in all, the Dawgs were the better team tonight and put an end to a very nice NewCath season.

Looks good on you!!

Congrats to NCC on a great season, and best wishes to their seniors.

Not a great game by either tonight, especially in first half. Dogs were the better team tonight. Barring an upset in the semis on Saturday it will be a rematch between 2 35th district teams come Sunday night.

Good time up in the suite talking to TOG for both games.

I think Wa Wa has already flunked it twice!

Bolden is the man. Other players in both games struggled shooting it and Bolden just filled it up. Great players win the big games and he won this one for Holmes. Nice adjustments by Booher from the previous game. Booher slowed it down in the first half with Bolden on the bench with foul trouble. Englemon was a big difference maker in this game. Hill played some nice ball off the bench for Holmes. Holmes never let this one get away from them like their recent losses to NCC and CCH. So when Bolden made his second half run, instead of getting Holmes back in the game it put Holmes ahead comfortably.

Great careers by the seniors at NCC. Best of luck to them all.

Mustang, agree with the free BGP trial comment. Lol....wawa doesnt get out much evidentally or is holding a grudge against NCC for something. Wow. No clue.

Big crowd tonight. The upper sections had quite a few patrons. NKU had afternoon classes ending and evening classes starting at or near 6:30. There was also a play on campus tonight. The traffic jam was pretty bad. I spoke to an officer tonight who said the chief of security was called. The campus police went in to all hands on deck mode. They described it as a perfect storm. The start time was pushed back 10 minutes and people were filling in throughout the first half.

Holmes got key rebounds throughout the game against NewCath's big men. McDonald played a great game. Bolden was fun to watch. Fast but very much in control. Holmes sagged into the paint and collapsed on McDonald which opened up the perimeter. If NewCath could have connected on a reasonable number of the open 3's they took, the outcome might have been different. I enjoyed watching two great teams tonight.

Traffic was horrible - whoever designed that roundy round where everyone has to go though at the same time is a Mental Giant. Government at its finest

Congrats to Holmes and NCC on playing a great game. That's what one would expect with the top two teams in the 9th squaring off. Did the college floor favor either team tonight? I thought it might favor Holmes since they are quicker vs the bigs of NCC. Any thoughts?
