NewCath missed to many 3s. Bolden is a stud. I believe NewCath is second best team in region. When will Grant ever get the Breds to Rupp, how much talent has been on the hill only to lose in the region year after year.

McDonald for NCC played a great game, Bolden fun to watch for Holmes. I thought Weyer came off the bench and added a big spark for NCC and do not know why the coach took him out and did not put him back in again? I wish HS would put in a shot clock, hate watching Holmes stand and dribble the ball at half court for 3 mins several times tonight! There was some nice talent on NCC's team from Ft Thomas kids, I am sure Highlands would have loved to have that talent on their team!

 

I agree with MPSL89, there needs to be a shot clock. There in the first half, I though I was watching a Highlands game. Offense on both ends was not very good. Score at half was 19 to 18. And the game was dragging. Bolden and McDonald were by far the 2 best on the floor.

No way is New Cath rated that low. I think Holmes and New Cath are the 2 best teams in the region.

Cov Cath beat them both on both teams home floor.

I thought the 4 teams shot poorly tonight. I was thinking that they need to have a first rate tournet in the place over several days with the best from the 9th and the rest from out of state to get these kids some time in that size of facility. You could pack it next year with Holmes, NCC, Cooper, and CCH forom the 9th plus maybe Scott co., Mason Co., Collins and a Louisville top 5 team (just suggestions). That would be fun. But I digress, sorry.

 

35 years ago in Lexington, the 4 city schools would play a double header in Memorial coliseum and would easily put 10,000 fans in there to watch. Great atmosphere, and the kids loved playing there.

There is nothing wrong with being an obvious Holmes fan, but you're a bit delusional to believe what you are trying to convince yourself of. Yes Holmes was the better team last night, but to say New Cath is overrated doesn't make sense. Get some sleep buddy, hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for you.

I think the biggest factor of the game tonite was MacDonald did not come off the floor all nite.

Someone will correct me if Iam wrong, but because of this he was Gassed in the 4th, hence to ending his scoring frenzy in the first 3 qtrs.

That kid is going to be something really special when it is all said in done, but hey even Lebron needs a breather...

 

Difference in the game imo, but maybe Brannen knew without MacDonald on the floor spelled zero chance for the Breds...

 

Someone else commented about both teams playing sloppy, well guess what, really good teams bring the not so good things out when all eyes are watching.

I noticed that McDonald didn't come out also. I also noticed Drew was not forced to move much on defense. Much of the time, especially in the first half, Holmes had the ball out top and were basically trying to break down their man one on one and drive to the hole. Long possessions allowed Drew to rest while on defense. If Holmes had been running more than Drew would have had to come out of the game. New Cath did not send many players to the offensive glass and got back on defense to prevent the run out. Bolden is amazing in the open court.

Although Holmes and CovCath will be excellent next season, to say that they will be "way better" is simply ignorant.

 

NCC returns Schulte, McDonald, Weyer, and Pangallo and will be very solid.

 

Wa Wa- New Cath also has a very strong class moving up.

New Cath needs to stick to their little All A classic tournament. Playing those class A teams like Latin School, Ludlow, Villa etc.

Very good game and the better team won last nite. I will say the main reason the Dawgs won was not due to Bolden and Quan controlling the ball but because of Englemons rebounding. That was huge!

 

I hope the Jags show up Saturday as it will be a route if they don't as Holmes looked very very good. I've said it before and i'll say it again, Cooper has no Dogs on this team to put the team on it's back! I will agree with I think TOGs post on giving all teams 30mins prior to playing their games of PT. For the first time all year Cooper did not make 1 three point basket and that will not cut it against a strong Dawgs team.

 

Whoever wins, and it's looking like the Dawgs game to lose, it will be good to see the old AAU teammates of Palmer, Morgan, and McNeil on the court for the last time. Good friends for life I'm sure.

It is like when the final fours are played in the huge domes and the teams shoot terribly. That change in backdrop is tough. It would also help the 9th rep once at Rupp to play a couple of tournaments on a floor like that.

Congrats to Holmes on the victory and to Newcath on an outstanding season. Nothing to hang their heads about here. One thing is for certain, the team who makes it out of the bottom half of this bracket will have earned it.

Close, but the 09 region final between Holmes and Boone that had the 10th finals between Mason Co and GRC as the opening act takes the cake.

 

I believe the official number for that game was around 6800. Tonight? My guess is somewhere around 5500. Still, HUGE crowd. Bottom bowl was basically full and upper level was probably 1/3 full.

 

Great game by both times. I told Seibert and Beuter I'm going to miss watching them play. Both are great kids both on and off the court.

 

The game plan tonight was to sag off Schulte with Englemon to keep him out of foul trouble and force him to come in to try and draw a charge...excellent execution of the gameplan by Englemon. Holmes also didn't force shots and didn't gamble on D like they did in the first game. Great team win. The bench really stepped up tonight as well. My guess is we see these two teams in a similar setting next year as well.

 

Those two guys are great kids from GREAT families. Their leadership will be missed next year.
