I wonder how many of these points/rebounds came late in the game (final 3 or 4 minutes) when Holmes had already seized some control of the game by going up 10 points. I didn't think either showed up for the first 3.5 quarters of the game.

 

I am sure Seibert and Beuter are great kids and provide wonderful leadership, however, for the second straight year they disappeared in the regional tournament game that the Breds lost.

 

In my opinion, McDonald was the only one who really showed up for the Breds tonight. In the 4th quarter, I do agree he may have been worn down a bit, but give Holmes credit for sagging off other Breds and playing help defense on him, not allowing him to get the ball down low like he did the previous 3 quarters. It seemed he had to go out further and further to get his touches.

 

 

 

Thank you for coming around Clyde! After watching more than a few games for each NCC and Holy Cross, I think Drew is the best big man in NKY with Campbell a close second. He has some very nice moves down low and is very fundamentally sound. Congratulations Drew on a great sophomore season with All A State MVP, District MVP and I am sure All Region Team. I am sure I am missing other awards as well, however, congratulations on coming up big for the Breds this year.

 

I think Schulte needs to be more consistent in his game. If I'm not mistaken, a lot of his stats came late in the game as well.

 

When you have three starters not show up, it is going to be tough to beat a good team like Holmes.

At 0.35 seconds Bolden left Devotto searching for his jock strap...YIKES!

 

Imo Bolden is probably the MVP in the 9th Region this year. His superior ballhandling and quickness set him apart from everyone on the floor. The kid can shoot it also. M

 

I hope Devoto iced those ankles after that series of crossovers. My son said those moves made the crowd gasp a little. Credit Brennan though for maintaining his balance and staying upright.

Not that it is relavent however, you have been very partial to the Ft. Thomas kids with your posts (Bueter, Siebert, DeVoto and Dupont). I don't have a problem with that, however, it seems you have an issue with me being partial to the McDonald kid (who plays big in the biggest games).

 

In my opinion, a couple of these boys didn't step up in this game for the second year in a row. I'm not trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill or take away from the success that NCC had this year.

 

I just really thought this was the year for them to win the region.

Nice job on the Highlight film Walter. After watching it, I thought it was a foul shot clinic. I had forgotten how many times Holmes went to the line. I actually went back and looked at the stats and realized they were 19-30. They missed as many as NCC took. Overall the % is not bad but most of those fouls came at the end of the game, Holmes will need to hit those clutch shots in the next 2 games if they want to come out on top. They could have iced it a little earlier.

The next two games for Holmes will both be tough. Good luck to the dogs.

I agree. However, I'd like to think that NewCath wouldn't stoop to the level of calling out people on public forums. It's high school sports, the kids are just kids and the coaches get paid a pittance for what they put into helping out the kids.

I get that.....And I would think with the success you guys have at all sports you would not have this....but for some it is never enough what gets accomplished................OR their kid got cut ..........OR their kid did not get the extra two minutes in the game...............OR their kid got yelled at at some practice...................OR their kid only got seven shots instead of the ten per game they deserve.........I think I will stop now.

When I attend New Cath games, I make sure I sit on the other side of the gym from their fans. They are not only crazy, but I hear more profanity out of their fans' mouths than any other fans. When I have young kids with me at a high school game, I am not going to have them be around that.

Thats interesting because last year during varsity baseball games I could not stand sitting with the Beechwood parents with all the ranting and raving going on............plus passing around e-mails at games, etc.........I am not taking a shot and disagreeing at what you said i am just pointing out it is EVERYWHERE!!!! And at the regional finals in baseball last year I did have an interesting view of one the NCC moms who was responding to chants by the Highlands student section........Unfortunately my little kids got the same view of her.

I have watched both teams play many times this year.It was very clear early in the season who the best team in the region is and the best team won.I know Holmes tripped up late in the season in 2 meaningless games.When the season is on the line they step up.NCC us a close second but NO DOUBT Holmes is the best team to repesent the 9th downsatate.

Have the defenders come out further. Simple answer. Otherwise no reason to conplain.

 

This is exactly the answer to the people crying "stallball." Look, they didn't play keep away the whole night, what they did was strategize. They knew they had the advantage off the dribble, and if NewCath was content to play man, which they were for the most part all night, then Holmes was going to make them play a man defense that they have the advantage against. Which is, if you wanna pack the lane, we'll wait until you come and get us, and then go around you. Anyone that knows anything about basketball understands this... I don't think Coach Booher was sitting over there thinking "man we better get moving, the fans are getting bored." His job is to win basketball games. When the job is to entertain the fans, maybe we should go to the NBA shot clock. Because that is their rule.

 

The conversation I had with the group of people I was there with was about how this was probably the most disciplined Holmes team we have seen, being able to execute that game plan without taking bad shots. And kicking out on offensive rebounds to reset and run more time.

 

They still had that three minute spurt in the third quarter where they got out in transition, but they played a slow paced game exactly how they needed too.

Less than 5 seems safe.

Schulte is simply raw on offensive end. He needs to spend the summer working on his touch from about 5ft to 10 ft out and his post moves. McDonald is so far ahead of him on touch around the rim, post moves, and jump shot/FT's. You can only get away with being so athletic for so long. I would like to see him improve in these areas which will make NCC that much better next year when you throw in Weyer.

 

I told him almost exactly the same after the game. Jump hook, face up from inside, one-dribble spins.

I would agree that it isn't right to point fingers, but as a fan with no dog in the fight (no pun intended), it was obvious that those two didn't have very good games, and that was a big factor in the outcome of the game. It isn't meant to put anyone down, as they had great careers, but it's the simple facts... They just didn't have a good game. That's basketball...
