This is what I was wondering... They basically were playing a double team out front and 4 on 3 shell underneath.... What I feel like would've happened had they consistently done this is maybe force a few bad/quick shots by the guys that Holmes didn't necessarily want shooting them... However, I feel like if it was consistently beating them, then eventually it would've resulted in a slew of layups and dunks by the bigs... But maybe if they had done the double earlier then it would've negated that 3rd quarter Holmes run that essentially won them the game, and everything evens up, and maybe were still playing.... figuratively, of course....

 

And that 3rd quarter run was all about Bolden, although some of it was transition which half court defense wouldn't have impacted.

IMO, Pauly from CCH did the better job containing Bolden than NCC did. The thing Seibert brings that Pangallo doesn't is length. This should make it harder for Bolden to shoot over top of him. Pangallo is much quicker than Seibert however, Bolden is going to get whatever he wants against Pangallo. Pangallo may be able to keep up with foot speed but Bolden's go to moves are the floater in the lane and pull up three. Pangallo doesn't have the length to stop that and Bolden can simply shoot over top of him. Pangallo may be quick but Bolden is still quicker especially with the ball in his hands.

 

If you think about it, Pauly was the most effective and he is almost a mix between Pangallo and Seibert. Height is in between and he is probably quicker than Seibert but slower than Pangallo. IMO, the one thing Pauly brings that I didn't see out of any NCC defenders is committment to locate Bolden, deny him the ball and force him to give it up on a consistent basis. If you watched the District finals I felt like Pauly had the mentality that I won't be denied I am going to be up in him the entire night and he is going to score on me but I can't let him go off for 30. When Bolden scored in that game he had minimal space and kudos to him because he still made very tough shots.

 

You simply won't stop Bolden he is that good. He is going to get his. You have to contain him and not allow him to make the supporting cast that much better. Take away his passing and ability to penetrate as well as try to slow him down scoring wise.

 

I thought the posts about who you would take over who in the starting 5 is interesting. Because if you take 4 NCC starters and Bolden as the Holmes starter it makes you realize the impact Bolden has on the game. He can really do it all.

Are you sure? You do not think Holmes would have rather beat Cov Cath and fall on their side of the bracket? Wow - I am sorry but I have to disagree with you. Lots of benefit to winning district IMO.

I agree with you that winning the district would have led to a easier path.But I have watched them play no less than 10 games this year they turn it on when needed.And im not saying they didnt want to win, but the nature of this team is to only give maximum effort when their backs are against the wall.A good example was the first game against NCC when they only showed up and played for about 1 qt.And that is NOT a good thing.Holmes has the talent to blow any team in the 9th out of the gym on any given night,but it only surfaces in spurts.

Not taking away anything from Holmes. But this was the worst game Ncc played all year. And was still in the game.

Regardless, NCC was a victim to Bolden both times. 37 and 22. He is averaging 29.5 against them. He got 19 against CCH.

He was on ice skates my friend. Obviously your partial to Devotto and whether you like it or not it's going to be on just about every highlight reel including Bolden. The only part missing is that he didn't fall down.

 

And whether the shot went down or not has no significance on how Bolden made Devotto look ON THE CROSSOVER. Significance in the score of the game, certaintly, but again didn't really matter as Holmes advances anyways.

I agree with your comment! It's like hitting a long HR in baseball but it's goes foul before it goes out. Looks awesome, indeed it was a shot but after it's all said an done, it's strike one!
