January 23, 201313 yr How high was this team ranked to start the year? It took about five years but you have finally posted something that I agree with.
January 23, 201313 yr I'm not angry at all, it is what it is. Noel is fun to watch. Let's accept this team for what it is, and bask in the glow of the championship that was delievered.
January 23, 201313 yr I don't care what the so called experts say, there is no way Goodwin, Poythress or even Noel are ready to jump to the NBA after 1 season.
January 23, 201313 yr I don't care what the so called experts say' date=' there is no way Goodwin, Poythress or even Noel are ready to jump to the NBA after 1 season.[/quote'] Who said "being ready" had anything to do with it? Not like the NBA is cutting back on the draft because the incoming talent pool isn't "ready"...
January 23, 201313 yr I don't care what the so called experts say' date=' there is no way Goodwin, Poythress or even Noel are ready to jump to the NBA after 1 season.[/quote'] Noel is ready to stay on an NBA roster, the others would be babysat in the D league for a while if not longer.
January 23, 201313 yr Rumor has it that Harow is still searching for his man that went backdoor late in the game.
January 23, 201313 yr Rumor has it that Harow is still searching for his man that went backdoor late in the game. How can a player be that inattentive?
January 23, 201313 yr I don't care what the so called experts say, there is no way Goodwin, Poythress or even Noel are ready to jump to the NBA after 1 season. Noel is absolutely a very good prospect right now. The other two, mainly Poythress, have been playing their way down the draft board all season.
January 24, 201313 yr I knew we were in trouble last night when the announcers kept begging for UK to run the offense through Wiltjer in the post.
January 24, 201313 yr I knew we were in trouble last night when the announcers kept begging for UK to run the offense through Wiltjer in the post. Wiltjer did not get a shot in the second half until between the 3 and 4 minute mark. If he is on the floor, they have to get him shots. He did rebound pretty well last night though.
January 24, 201313 yr I knew we were in trouble last night when the announcers kept begging for UK to run the offense through Wiltjer in the post. That may sound bad, but Wiltjer would be a huge improvement over Goodwin or Harrow. At least he can pass.
January 24, 201313 yr Probably. He was 1000 times better than Archie or Harrow last night. Goodwin shot 2-12 from the field and 3-6 from the FT line, while Harrow was 3-12 with 2 assists. Why not give Hood some of Goodwin's minutes, he might provide some positive energy at the least.
January 24, 201313 yr DD offense is junk, really is organized pick up at best. When you have Top 5 NBA talent thought it makes you look like a genius. When you don't have Top 5 NBA talent and you have to run multiple sets to get a non 1st rounder shots when he is hot, well you get this junk we saw last night.
January 24, 201313 yr Coach Cal is so awesome to listen to. His vision is crystal clear and he communicates everything so well. I suggest going to the Herald Leader web site and pulling up the post game interview. I listened to Cal there and heard part of his show on the radio tonight. I will try to relay his response to some of the posts above. Cal was clearly disappointed with the guards - namely Archie and Ryan. He said Polson played well and Mays did all he could. He said they (Archie/Ryan) drive to the basket with their head down. They have been working on them getting their head up so they can see the open man. He said Ryan just wasn't there last night. He also talked about how Archie needs to add the floater to his arsenal instead of taking it to the rim no matter what. He said they have been working on it. He also talked about how they just aren't doing what they are told. He mentioned the time out called when Bama took the lead. They set up a play to run and Harrow of Goodwin came down, didn't run the play and threw up a shot less than 20 seconds into the shot clock. He also said Bama was very physical and the refs let the game be played that way. If they aren't calling fouls, then Archie has to pull up and hit the jumper or shoot the floater. Cal also said if he were in that game, he would have been T'd up because he would not have been dishing out some responses to the physical play. He said Bama plays UK physical, that is part of their game plan. Last year's team fought back. This team hasn't learned how to do that yet. On getting Wiltjer the ball, Cal said they ran plays and got him the ball but Bama tightened the D up and closed out any time Wiltjer got it. Plus, Bama was not leaving Wiltjer in the second half. So they took away the open jumper. Then UK had to force it to him in the post because nothing else was working. They ran plays for him but Bama set their D to stop Wiltjer in the second half. Cal also talked about the short bench and how it makes it tough. He said there were players who got 25 minutes in the Bama game that should have played 5 or 6 minutes. But he had no other choice but to play them. It sounded like he was talking about Harrow mainly when he was making those comments. On the end of the game, Cal said this team has not learned how to be patient, keep their head and stay disciplined. They revert back to their bad habits and then that leads to mistakes. There were 3 offensive rebounds in the last few minutes that Cal said were the killer plays. They played good defense but made a mistake at the end of the play that gave Bama second chance points. He talked about how they have worked on rebounding with both hands, not pulling the ball down with one hand. One of the second chance points was because of a one handed rebound that led to a lost ball and points for Bama. That was an example of the mistakes they make at end game. Finally, Cal said the kids are great. They work hard. They are trying but they are just having trouble breaking bad habits. He wants more fight out of the team and don't let anyone outfight you for that win. They need to learn they have to stop doing it the way they have done it in the past and do it the way they are being taught now. When they do that, the wins will be there. I could listen to him talk basketball all day long.
January 24, 201313 yr Goodwin and Poythress are not lottery picks I don't know how many times I have to say that...everyone now seems to start agreeing with that assessment...with that being said I hope Goodwin goes because he doesn't seem coach able at this point and I don't want him to mess up next years teams chemistry...Poythress I would love to see come back, he would be a nice holdover for next years team...Here's an idea, put Goodwin on the bench and start Hood...At least Hood might allow the offense to flow and be an offense instead of driving the lane out of control every time he gets the chance to catch the ball...Hood along with Wiltjer and Mays would also make the team a little more dangerous from deep...Goodwin is no doubt more talented than Hood but I think Hood may be more suited to not make mistakes and help this team win
