Walker, Mayo, and Ellis are in the top 50 of the 2007 class, i don't care who you to on lose by 8 is an accomplishment in itself, it would be great foe Mayo to stay at least two years in college but thats alittle ahead of myself Great job SL

To be fair to NCH, its not possible for 17 year old kids to "get up" for every game. The school (NCH) has turned them into a carnival act taking them all over the country to make $$$. It has to be difficult to motivate this team EVERY game when they know they're always the best team on the floor.

 

Hats off to SL.

The fact that SL won the Kentucky State Championship might have something to do with them giving NCH a great game. I don't know.

I believe the job Walt Allen did was really overlooked.He held Walker to what?...12 points,the #2 player in the country in 2007.If Im not mistaken only 2 of those was in half court offense the others was on a dunk on a steal of the inbound pass and free-throws.Also with Walker guarding him he still scored 12 and had 8 boards.I think he really helped his Mr.Basketball status unlike Dunaway who was horrible against alot less competition.I also think If Trey Smith takes it to whoever is guarding him like he did Ellis the rest of the season they really have a shot at a re-peat. :ylsuper: :ylsuper: :ylsuper:

I was at this one...South Laurel put up one heckuva fight...At first it seemed they may have been a bit timid of Mayo and Walker, but that changed pretty quickly. Mayo and Walker were still impressive, althought only scoring 18 and 12 respectively.

One of the most sickening parts was watching their coach drawing up plays during timeouts and all 5 members kept turning around listening to their BACK-SEAT Coach(A man in the stands). I thought that guy behind the bench did such a good job coaching during the game, that I told him good game coach after the game. That was a riduculous situation and a slap in their REAL Coaches face, but it is his fault to put up with it./QUOTE]

Lofton should thank his lucky stars that he didn't sign with UK. Right now, he would be averaging about 3 points a game, on 4 minutes a game playing time.

I actually thought it was pretty funny that when they announced that Lofton had 28 points everyone behind me was yelling "Way to go Tubby" among a few other words.You know he had to hear it. :laugh: :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

As a little sidelight on this game, it is interesting that Mayo has a bit of a prior history with South Laurel. As an eighth grader at Rose Hill, he led the Royals to a convincing first round win over South Laurel in the state tournament. Walker, of course, had already left Rose Hill as a ninth grader and enrolled back in the eighth grade at NCH. That occurred about six weeks prior to that game.

 

Another Mayo tie to SL involved the middle school state tournament that year. Rose Hill defeated much this same group of SL kids in the championship of that tournament. Mayo did not play in the tournament but did sit on the bench as an "unofficial assistant coach". Again, Walker had moved on before this tournament. Rose Hill's team featured Jonathan VanHoose (Russell), Austin Blair (Russell), Matt Thomas (Ashland), Alex Barker (Fairview), Jamaal Williams (Huntington High), Michael Taylor (Huntington High), Austin Robinson (Huntington St. Joseph), and Daniel LoVette (starting for a high school in, I believe, Mississippi). Those are fine boys all of whom are making strong contributions to their respective teams.

I am glad to see someone else say that because I feel the same way. He would not be progressing this quickly or this well under Tubby.
