After a win over Lafayette and the way SL played tonight...... do they regain the #1 spot in KY???

Great game; SL represented the state well.

 

NCH was sluggish on offense after Ellis picked up his third foul in the first quarter. He was killing South with his height. NCH had more troubles when Mayo got his third just before half, and his fourth early in the third. South went on a 10-0 run when he checked out. NCH bounced right back with a 12-0 run of their own.

 

South gave it their best puncher's chance, hitting 7-21 from threes. After getting their legs under them when NCH opened the game 19-5, SL settled down and didn't look intimidated.

Nice analysis Jim Schue. Keenan Ellis was the one who gave SL fits in the first quarter with his size. He scored 8 early points and got his third foul with 8.4 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Walker did not score until the second half. Ellis also added 6 rebounds and 4 blocked shots for the game.

I tip my hat to South Laurel but I will admit that the Cards got some home cooking. I'm not saying by any means that NCH didn't foul but a good portion of their fouls started getting called when 9 times outta 10 they would be overlooked. That seemed to take the wind out of a seemingly lifeless bunch of Trojans.

 

Although SL had some help, they earned the respect tonight as well. Although they were severly outmatched, they went toe to toe with the best. NCH may have just been going through the motions but they are still NCH and had a fight from South. Both teams will earn a great deal from this game. It will give South more confidence heading into the later half of the season and teach NCH that they have to bring it every night or they could slip up and be upset.

 

Crazy as it sounds, Bryan Station appeared to be the best team in Frankfort today. All in all it was a good day of ball. I toughed it out even though I called in and felt terrible. Glad I did too!

When South Laurel plays team ball, they are tough to beat. Great effort by the Cardinals.

That is the way that I seen also, SL got a lot of calls that went their way in the 1st half and NCH received none. I kinda expected that with 11th Region officials doing the game, it was almost like SL was Lexington Catholic playing in the 5/3 tourney :creepy: Mayo, Walker & Ellis didn't get rattled when the game got tight, they picked it up when they had to and got the win.

What a great game to go see. If you get the chance to see Mayo, and Walker I would advise so. SL played a heck of a game and did repesent well and above average. NCH was a bit surprised from what I could tell. SL came out overwhelmed in the opening qtr. and didn't play as well but got on tract soon after. As some one stated after Ellis got into foul trouble it was somewhat a match. Great game for both clubs and it was a thrill to see SL play them down till the last 2 min. I told my buddy how embarassing it must have been to be favored by 20 and have to play high school stall ball to pull out a slim win. You never got the feeling that NCH wasn't going to pull it out but you can bet SL got their attention........LTW.

Bryan Station looked real good. I was shocked at how easily they ripped into Henry Clay.

HOMECOOKING??????Are you serious?They played in Frankfort and the last time I stepped out my door Frankfort wasnt to close to South Laurel high school.This was just the best high school game I have seen in quite sometime.This game just showed how bad NCH is on defense.I mean when you grab jerseys to stop somebody from driving its a foul anywhere.There was some bad calls on both sides but nothing crazy.O.J Mayo did shoot an airball that should have been an obvious foul but then again Walker was laying on 3 South defenders back going up for a board and it wasnt called.I think it was a case of NCH looking down the court at South and thinking it wouldnt be a game before it even started.If not for Ellis the big 6'11" guy NCH would have lost by more than what they beat South by guarenteed.When he got in foul trouble South went up by 6 or 7 in no time.But as far as O.J. goes he is unreal,if not for foul trouble(which from what I remember was all fouls)its untelling how many points he has.Hes got a better shot from anywhere on the court than anyone I have seen.But with that being said if they dont figure out how to play D by the 18th against Oakhill they will get blown out.Hound82 I dont know what games you were watching but if not for the NCH vs. South game you couldnt have payed me to step out my back door and watch those other 2 games.That was the ugliest ball I have watched in a while.The only bright spot of those games was the little guy minnifield pinning 2 shots against the backboard for HC.The way I seen it Laniganfan29 it was a great game regardless with a little hating from you and a redhound afterwards.But dont worry the redhounds got theres coming tuesday. :lol: By the way I sit by O.J.,s mom and some other parents of NCH players and they were saying that South was not the most athletic team they played but by far one of the best.

Its amazing how individual athleticism decreases in importance as team unity increases!!! When SL plays like a "team" and they are "hot" I dont think anyone in the state can beat them. However, those 2 things dont always happen.

 

Dont cut SL short though.... they may not be 6'8, ripped, and able to jump out the gym...... but they can play ball, and they have a few "decent" athletes!

I thought Hammonds came out and showed no fear. I bet Allen is sore this morning, he and Walker banged eachother aorund all night. I found South to be more impressive than NCH in as far as their rankings are concerned. South definitley looked like one of the best teams in the state but NCH #2 in the nation?? Mayo is listed at 6' 5", looked more like 6' 3" from where I was. NCH showed a lack of disipline in shot selection, whined on every call, and seemed to ignore their coach during timeouts.

 

Rumor is, Tubby was there to watch 6' 11" Ellis as another project pivot for the cats.

O.J. Mayo is the real deal. I think that if they hadn't made the rule up about the age limit to enter the NBA draft. He would have skipped college and gone straight to the pros. But now he has to go to college. Hope he comes to UK.
