Haters,Haters,Haters.....A "hip-hop box" if noone on souths team could guard Mayo or Walker what happened? If Im not mistaken I was right on the floor and could have sworn I seen Hammonds block one of Mayos 3s and saw Walt Allen being more physical than Walker all night.Mayo and Walker didnt score 30 because they actually played a team that knows how to play "D" and that they was forced to play something that was supposed to be "D".It just comes to show if you cant play"D" It dont matter how many great players you got you will be vunerable.(Just ask Tubby)As far as Henry Clay being a descent team is a joke. The only reason Dunaway has a name is because he can shoot"half-way descent"and the rest of the team cant throw it in the ocean from a helicopter.Thats not based on the 21st game its based on every game I seen them in this year.If you play any kind of defense on HC they just crumble.I dont remember who it was that said South was 15 points better than HC but I dont know if you watched it or not but South beat Henry Clay by 42 in the AAU tournament.Yes both teams had all there players available. The fact of the matter is that there is not any stand out teams in Lexington again.Scott county is really good and Lexington Cath. is descent but I dont see any state champs in Fayette county.I should have sold Hatorade on this thread I would be rich!!!

South won't get any credit from some posters unless they win it again. I remember last season several posters stating how they weren't the best team in the state, even after they won the sweet 16. No they aren't loaded with D1 talent. But they have a few great basketball players surrounded by some pretty good ones, have played together for some time, play team ball, play defense, have a very good coach, and already have a state title to their credit. It is not always who has the most college bound talent, but who has the best team. They are for real, whether or not they win another state title or not. They will be in the hunt.

Word on this street is the package will be delivered to Huntington, WV.

Is is my imagination or does the BGP cover shot show Huggins and Tubby watching this game from the sidelines?

True, true....Tubby is looking at the Big kid 6'11 guy.... he knows the other two are Huggy's boys. You cant tell me that Hugs isnt out on the town with these guys..... no restrictions now.... he's hookin them up and all he is asking for is 1 yr out of them..

I predict Hugs takes the Marshall job and these two guys go with him for 1 yr.....then off to the Riches of the NBA.....

If Tubby was looking at any SL kids he better get a clue. Although they are great High schoolers, UK has other specific needs that will not be addressed by recruiting Walt Allen. NO knock on him but he is only 6'5 and not that versatile. A great High schooler, probably Mr. Basketball but not UK material.

If Tubby was looking at any SL kids...... and thats highly doubtful..... it would be Proffitt. The kid is just a junior, 6'3, big, can handle the ball extremely well, knows how to run a basketball team and can get the ball up court. Proffitt is a great defender, hustler, and knows how to win. Proffitt can also shoot the ball very well and is an extremely smart and mature basketball player for his age. He is also a very good student. I'm not so sure he is D1, especially UK, but if anyone on SL's team has a shot it is Proffitt.

I believe Allen is already signed sealed and delivered to a D2 college.

I agree.

- The only SL kid who would be possibly be getting looks from UK would be Proffitt. He has all the tools you mentioned above, but not sure if he is major D1 caliber. Maybe, but I am on the bubble with him at the D1 level. He reminds me of a Kyle Macy type of guard with good size, a good shot, and fundamentally sound, and while he is a very good athlete, doesn't have Rondo type of athleticism.

- Trey Smith is 6'8", has a nice shot, and his dad played for UK (GJ Smith), but nowhere close to that level in talent and is not very strong, very thin physically.

- Walt Allen has already signed with a D2 college (cannot remember the name, but it is a done deal). Noone believed he was D1, but knew he would get to play somewhere.

I agree 100% about your analysis of Proffitt and Smith. I think if Smith can get a little stronger and improve on his athleticism then he has a shot as well, but its a long one. However he is just a sophomore and still has a lot of HS ball left to play.

About Proffitt...... I too am not convinced he is a solid D1 prospect just yet...... however he too has 1 more season...... and if he is able to lead SL back to the sweet 16 and win another championship, he may just change my mind. Also..... its very possible Proffitt could be the front runner for Mr. Basketball his senior year is SL makes it back to Rupp and performs well. I think accomplishing either one of these monumental tasks would up Proffitts stock tremendously.

Those are the only 2 kids from SL Tubby MIGHT (and thats a big MIGHT) have been looking at.

Don't know if Tubby is looking at any of the SL kids but I did see him talking to the SL coach after the game. What I overheard was Tubby congratulating the SL coach for their effort, and that they represented the State of Kentucky well.

Coach Wright, the SL programs, each of the players, and especially Walt Allen are the epitomy of sportsmanship and teamwork. They all represent this state and the EKY area very well. Not only are they a classy program, but very classy people off the court as well.

I never meant to make it sound like the out of state tourney that SL won was stacked...... only meant to show that the teams they played were quality competition and could play with just about anyone in the state of KY.
You claimed that Glenn, Reynolds and Molloy were top teams in their respective states ... they're not. Together, they're barely above the .500 mark.

You vastly exaggerated their strength, and you were called on it.

I tip my hat to South Laurel but I will admit that the Cards got some home cooking. I'm not saying by any means that NCH didn't foul but a good portion of their fouls started getting called when 9 times outta 10 they would be overlooked. That seemed to take the wind out of a seemingly lifeless bunch of Trojans.

Although SL had some help, they earned the respect tonight as well. Although they were severly outmatched, they went toe to toe with the best. NCH may have just been going through the motions but they are still NCH and had a fight from South. Both teams will earn a great deal from this game. It will give South more confidence heading into the later half of the season and teach NCH that they have to bring it every night or they could slip up and be upset.QUOTE

That is the way that I seen also, SL got a lot of calls that went their way in the 1st half and NCH received none. I kinda expected that with 11th Region officials doing the game, it was almost like SL was Lexington Catholic playing in the 5/3 tourney :creepy: Mayo, Walker & Ellis didn't get rattled when the game got tight, they picked it up when they had to and got the win.

You're right, Lex Cath did real well this year in their own tourney.

Not as well as South Laurel did in theirs ...

FYI, "descent" is actually spelled "decent". ;)

Not as well as South Laurel did in theirs ...

:thumb: If I remember right, Pendleton had all their players in foul trouble and Mason had some funny looking foul and free throw #'s. And this is the South fans talking about getting shafted in Lexington?

I'm not saying that Allen deserves to be Mr. Basketball because his team is going to win the 13th...... if that is what you think I am arguing then you are totally misunderstanding my argument. I'm saying Allen deserves to be Mr. Basketball because he was state tourney MVP last season (therefore it means he performed at the highest level against the best competition), he has continued to be successful against the best in this state, as well as other states throughout this season, and because he is an upstanding PERSON, not just a great player.

Allen may not be a better athlete then Dunaway..... and Dunaway may have better stats...... and Dunaway no doubt has more potential at the college level. But I dont think any award is ever given on stats alone, nor do I think Mr. Basketball should be given to the best athlete. The award is a highschool award and should only reflect how one has performed in highschool, not how one MAY or MAY NOT perform in college. When you compare Dunaway's career and Allen's career its a tough choice, but I dont see how Allen doesnt come away with the award.

The 11th region would be better competition then the state tourney and just because you win mvp of the state is no reason to make you the winner of Mr. basketball. There is no comparison in the comp each has played against. If you look at the ratings the #2 team in the 13th would be rated #12 team in the 11th.

LOL...... if you say so!

Glenn is a top 25 team in NC. I was wrong on saying that Reynolds and Molloy were top teams in their state....... but despite that, considering the way they played SL, I would bet they could compete with anyone in the state of KY.

As far as Malloy..... they are a very very good team despite their record and have lost alot of close games against some very tough competition in NY. They are also a traditonal power in NY that has made the USA Today Boys Top 25 several times. Consider this...... Christ the King (another USA Today Boys Top 25 team) beat Malloy by nearly the same score that SL did. I know you cant compare scores and such for various reasons, but its interesting.
