I'm not making the Dunaway-Henry Clay argument, but I am simply challenging your claims about some of the teams on South Laurel's schedule ... nothing more, nothing less.

 

Bottom line ... South Laurel has played two teams (Brentwood Academy and North College Hill) that may be better than anyone on Henry Clay's schedule, but I suspect the Blue Devils have played a deeper slate of teams.

 

In the end, they're probably a wash.

According to Maxpreps...... SL has one more game against a top 25 KY team...... that team being a very suspect Mason Co team.

 

You are right though...... Henry Clay has played a much deeper in state schedule (this due to the region they play in, but SL cant help that they have a cake region). Also remember that no one is counting the games SL will play at Rupp against some of the best teams in KY....... if they can get through the 13th region of course.

I think S.Laurel is the best team in the state and I really like 4 of their players including Allen. I think South is 15 points better then Henry Clay. However imo Dunaway has had a better career with better numbers including this year against better teams. Henry Clay has played better teams top to bottom . This is about the best player not the best team. The one thing is both of these players are great young men. You can't give the award to a kid just because they make it to Rupp when they are taking alot easier road.

My observation and opinion is that he gets to caught up in the numbers wich ultimately hurts the team. He had agreat State tournament last year but Henry Clay got beat by Warren Central because they went away from the team concept late in the game.

 

No question the 11th is traditionally one of the toughest Regions in the State, and if Dunaway worries about his numbers and Mr. Basketball they may not make it out of their district. I sincerely wish Henry Clay the best and I beleive if they play team ball they can play with anyone in the State.

In the state tourney last year he scored 13 points in the 3rd quarter and got the ball twice in the 4th so it wasn't Dunaway not playing team ball. I was told Dunaway leads HC in assists and scoring so anybody thats says he is not a team player is wrong.

I don't have the stats. He is a good player. I just think he takes more than his share of poor shots. I definately think he will play college ball somewhere. I'm not sure if he is D1 caliber. Only time will tell. If you follow his career very calculated decisions have been made to surround him by players that will make him shine that much more (all within the rules I might add). I'm not saying that's bad. I'm sure it will serve him well as colleges look at his stats and abilities.

 

As far as Mr. Basketball in Kentucky I believe you have to look at this year's performance, which includes how an individual contributes to the team's success. Currently their is alot of talk about the Buckner kid from Eastern.

 

I respect your opinion about Dunaway being the most unselfish player you have ever seen, my opinion is just different than yours.

Brentwood is a legitimately great team and has proven it by excelling against a tough schedule. Frankly, North College Hill's #2 ranking is a crock, the product of the presence of two extremely-hyped players.

Madison Central is barely a top-25 team, is one at all. Other than the win over South Laurel, the Indians have done little to establish themselves as such. At best, they are the #5 or #6 team in their region.

 

Mason County ... lost to Southwestern, then was bombed by Lexington Catholic at home. The Royals are not a top-25 team.

Hardly.

 

According to Maxpreps.com, Glenn is 11-5 and is ranked 25th in North Carolina in their rankings. Reynolds is 6-10.

 

Molloy isn't ranked in the top 25 of the New York sportswriters' poll and NYHoops.com, a site that covers basketball in NYC, doesn't have Molloy ranked among the top 17 teams in the city. According to MaxPreps.com, Molloy is 6-5.

 

Moral of the story ... just because a team goes out-of-state to play in a tournament doesn't mean that the tournament is stocked with great teams.

No one is calling South Laurel's schedule "soft," but it isn't nearly as tough as you make it out to be. The Cardinals' schedule is, at best, no tougher than that of many of the state's top teams.

 

As for Allen ... I saw the Sweet 16 last year. In my estimation, Allen was South Laurel's third-best player, behind Fields and Profitt. He is a very good player, but I haven't seen anything that makes me think he should be Mr. Basketball.

Anyway, without researching it any further because it's pointless, I agree with UKBELL on the Glenn victory was BIG. If Westsider were to have actually seen them play he would agree as well. But instaed of seeing them and forming an opinion, I guess it's easier to simply see 5 losses and discount them as not being very much competion. Here are the 2 being heavily recruited:

Marshall Moses 6’8” 230 SF (11) Kernersville (SC) Glenn . Very strong and versatile SF. Very good mid range game and long range jumper improving daily. A “sleeping giant” in the SF group. Can be one of the best in my book. Wake Forest and Uk are his favorites, but also have offers from Virginia Tech, Kansas, Clemson, and Cincinnati. Texas and Louisville are involved also.

Medium High Addition Eric Wallace. 6'7" 190 SF Kernersville (SC) Glenn. Explosive dyanmite wing player. Teammate of Marshall Moses. Great athlete and great scorer. Can penetrate and pull up and stick jumper with the best of them. Arizona, Connecticut, Georgia Tech, Florida, Michigan State, North Carolina, Texas, Wake Forest

I am a Henry Clay fan and I've been to 4 or 5 of their games this year. I don't think that Dunaway should be mr. basketball. He looked awful during the Scott Co. game they absolutely shut him down. He did play good agaisnt Tates Creek (at Creek) but I don't think he played well agaisnt Station at Frankfort.

 

I think Slaughter is a better choice (I've only seen him once though) but from all the info I can gather I would go with A.J.

I don't like his off balance three pointers and forced 18 footers from the corner with people guarding him. Anyone know his three point % for the year? I would be shocked if over 30%.
