Since this relates to how long it takes to vote, does anyone know why KY, at least my precinct, has gone back to paper votes when they had been electronic in the past? Was this a response to a lawsuit or anything?

Too many issues with electronic voting, plus there was no paper trail if needed. So now if they need to audit the votes they can.

No agenda but what is sad is that a large population of the people who have been given this right won't make an effort, let alone a strong effort, to take advantage of this right.

Election laws are a "States Right" issue so each state makes law that should work for their state. People to work polls is an issue in most places. Florida is a "true democracy". There are pages of referendum and constitutional amendments to wade through as well as voting for candidates. I always vote absentee to avoid the polling place. There should be ways to make this easier and still protect the vote from fraud.

While I do think there are attempts at suppressing votes, I do believe a lot of it is blown out of proportion in an attempt to get out the minority vote and to label Republicans as racists. I was just driving in to work listening to MSNBC and Congressman Elijah Cummings (Dem. - Maryland) was talking about an elderly black woman brought to tears and she was going to do everything in her power to make sure she voted. Now he did not say how she was ever suppressed but you have heard an influx of these "stories" that politicians only seem to know about. Frankly, I find it sickening that there is suppression for one, but two, those who pretend they are standing up for those being suppressed do nothing about it except use it to their advantage because they know it is in their back pockets.

I might be wrong but it seems people are talking about the long lines as voter suppression and giving the impression it is the Republicans causing it? Give me a break. How many of you have volunteered to work 12 or more hours today at the polls? There is a real problem of getting poll workers in the areas like Fort Thomas. What do you think they're dealing with in the inner city precincts? If there is voter suppression going on it's because people do not care enough to give an extra effort to make it more convenient for people to vote. It's easier to blame Darth Vader.

They do. I believe KY is $125 plus some extra for the training. Still can't get enough. Volunteer is the wrong word.

I don't know how it was for everyone else, but I vote in the same place I have for the past several elections, and at the same time, before I go to work likely within 5 minutes of the same time last election. The place was easily twice as full as it was last election. I stood in line for approx. 10 minutes to vote in my district's section.

Here is an example. Today a friend of mine wasn't allowed to vote because his Driver Lic. was expired. So now he is off to get that taken care off and will have to go back to cast his vote.

 

My question what does his license being expired have to do with him voting. BtW the are only 6 days expired.

I look at suppression as trying to restrict and limit a segment from voting. To me this is more about ignorance on the part of those working the polls.

You've misplaced the issue IMO. The issue is not necessarily the number of poll workers. The problem started with many, many efforts (some successful) to decrease the chance to vote. Ohio decreased the number of days for early voting. WI tried to implement rules restricting students' chance of voting while on campus. FL tried many things.

 

The blame goes to the legislative level and not the fine folks that work the polls.

Took me much longer this time than any other election. Maybe it's just me but I didn't feel like anyone was trying to keep me from voting, just waited and arrived REAL late to work.
