I might be wrong but it seems people are talking about the long lines as voter suppression and giving the impression it is the Republicans causing it? Give me a break. How many of you have volunteered to work 12 or more hours today at the polls? There is a real problem of getting poll workers in the areas like Fort Thomas. What do you think they're dealing with in the inner city precincts? If there is voter suppression going on it's because people do not care enough to give an extra effort to make it more convenient for people to vote. It's easier to blame Darth Vader.

In Cincinnati, signs in predominately african american districts were erected announcing "Voter Fraud is a Crime." These signs were taken down by court order. American Republican ideology is simply not selling any more. As caucasians become more of a minority, these efforts will become less subtle.

When you have long lines to begin with, and you cut the days for early voting in half, it's harder for people to vote. As you mentioned at the end, they need to make it more convenient for people to vote, not harder.

I'm all for making it convenient to vote on election day but don't agree about the early voting extension. If you can't make it get an absentee ballot. I did notice that those champions of voting rights Democrats only requested extended hours in the heavily democratic areas. Sounds like 2000 to me alright.

I grew up in the Cleveland area and have lived in Chicago. One hour lines were common, and still are. The longest I ever waited was 1 hour and 40 minutes. People in major cities do have to make an effort to get out and vote.

I agree. I didn't know much about the issue until I read about it on here. It is concerning that this is done.

 

It is downright evil. How many Americans have died in defense of our rights - chief among them the right to vote. We should be making it easier to vote; but the agenda is the opposite. Sad.

They didn't extend it, they reduced what they already had. Lines have been very long in places all week, and in Ohio they reduced the hours on top of it. In KY, at least now, there are strict rules on who qualifies for an absentee ballot.

Very easy to get an absentee ballot in KY, IN and OH. Again, one of the problems facing the polls are not enough workers and those who do work it are often elderly. They have a tough enough time making a 12 to 13 hour shift. Make it 15 hours or so and they really have a problem. They have to find more poll workers.

Why in some states you can have early voting for xxx numbers of days, while in others there is no early voting?

Why in some states do you have to show an ID but in other state you do not?

Since this relates to how long it takes to vote, does anyone know why KY, at least my precinct, has gone back to paper votes when they had been electronic in the past? Was this a response to a lawsuit or anything?

I agree with you. Federal elections should be the same in every state.
