You've misplaced the issue IMO. The issue is not necessarily the number of poll workers. The problem started with many, many efforts (some successful) to decrease the chance to vote. Ohio decreased the number of days for early voting. WI tried to implement rules restricting students' chance of voting while on campus. FL tried many things.

 

The blame goes to the legislative level and not the fine folks that work the polls.

 

My post was as to the long voting times being used as an example of voter suppression. The long voting lines and the reduced hours are also related to a lack of poll workers. They are by and large elderly and they simply do not want a 15 hour day.

Took less time to vote than in 2008. Voted around 6:30 each time.

Unless they are there telling people they can't vote without ID or that women need to get an ultrasound to vote then no. All they are doing is making sure blacks aren't being suppressed or intimidated. They also said they are doing what they are legally allowed to do. Couple of black guys at the voting booth frighten you? :lol:

How is his voter suppression? Seems like booth monitoring suppression to me.

I might be wrong but it seems people are talking about the long lines as voter suppression and giving the impression it is the Republicans causing it? Give me a break. How many of you have volunteered to work 12 or more hours today at the polls? There is a real problem of getting poll workers in the areas like Fort Thomas. What do you think they're dealing with in the inner city precincts? If there is voter suppression going on it's because people do not care enough to give an extra effort to make it more convenient for people to vote. It's easier to blame Darth Vader.

As a country we all say everyone should vote. Pols , however, do not believe that as we see by these new voting rules. We had problems with this in 2008 so instead of figuring out how to fix the problem some states voted to make it worse.

I don't get the ID thing. I've always had to show ID to vote. Why is that a big deal?

Here is an example. Today a friend of mine wasn't allowed to vote because his Driver Lic. was expired. So now he is off to get that taken care off and will have to go back to cast his vote.

 

My question what does his license being expired have to do with him voting. BtW the are only 6 days expired.

 

Technically it is no longer a valid ID. You can't buy beer with an expired license.

 

But I agree, it still shows you as you. I think a different poll person might have let your friend vote.

Right there with you...how exactly is proving who you are suppression? I hear the cry of folks about not having a drivers license, then get off your fanny months before and get an ID card...its not like this election popped up out of no where.

I have worked the polls in Campbell Co. numerous times in the past and in all of my training, I have never been instructed to reject an ID that was expired.

You need workers for every day open.

 

At some point you have to say to the voter, "make an effort to get out and vote".

 

Today is election day. We knew it 4 years ago, shoot, we knew it decades ago. Plan ahead. A week is plenty of time given all the alternatives available for people.
