At some point you have to say to the voter, "make an effort to get out and vote".

 

Today is election day. We knew it 4 years ago, shoot, we knew it decades ago. Plan ahead. A week is plenty of time given all the alternatives available for people.

From both sides as oppposed to those on here who look thru their particular bias and only see it from one side. The rules change could obviously be an attempt. No. I do not think the legislators had that reason in mind when they made the new rules. Same issue has existed for a long time regarding workers. What happened in 2008 to suddenly make OH FL et al to decrease voting opportunities?

Since this relates to how long it takes to vote, does anyone know why KY, at least my precinct, has gone back to paper votes when they had been electronic in the past? Was this a response to a lawsuit or anything?

 

 

The paper ballot now being used reduces the amount of time it takes to vote. Instead of standing in line waiting on one or two machines, you get your paper ballot, fill it out and then put it into the machine. Many people can be completing their ballot at the same time. It was very crowded at our precinct but I was done in 10 minutes. With the old electronic machines, it probably would have taken me 45 minutes to vote today.

I'm not saying voting issues should not be examined. I'm saying it's crystal clear as to the "why" of the new rules.

Without a doubt and that has been my contention all along. I get it, the Republicans are trying to get these laws voter ID laws passed to help their guy. But what kept being ignored is that those on the Democrat side were not wanting it to take place - at this time - because it helped their candidate. If you are against it, you have to be all-in and never want it to change. Because acknowledging there is a problem but saying, "well, we need to wait until after this election..." you are no better than the other side.

I agree and believe you should have to be able to identify yourself as you to vote.

 

I disagree with any attempt by either side to make it more difficult for people to exercise their vote by any method. Whether that be changing rules or trying to intimidate people.

Since I am black I try to keep a pulse on what is going on in the black community. Right now voter suppression is a real fear.

Depends on what they're being told.

 

IF they're being told "Don't worry. Just fill this out and you won't have to to the other poll" then that's a problem.

 

Sometimes I think the errors at the polls are caused by the actual workers. They don't seem like the most well-trained bunch.

I have a feeling we're going to be reading about incidents like this for a long time. Both sides have lawyers out in force in the swing states. Seems like there was already a lawsuit filed in Nevada or Colorado, probably multiple ones.
