Water-boarding...where is everyone on this?

Featured Replies

Water-boarding...where is everyone on this? Is it OK or outrageous?

Not heard much about it the last couple of years, has US stopped doing this?

Or has media just quit reporting on it?

I've got no problem using it. Especially on terrorists or other non-uniformed combatants. I'm not sure about using it on uniformed prisoners, I wouldn't want it used on our people.

I thought it was banned but I'm not for sure.

Haha like that means anything to our government. All that means is "don't let the media find out this time you idiots."

I personally don't have much of a problem with it.

Use it on the terrorists , get what information you , then make them dissappear . They have NO rights whatsoever .

I have never tried it, but it sounds like fun. I know a lot of people who do it. I will have to find someone who has a boat though.... oh. Never mind.

Seriously, it is still happening, just the media has turned its head. All of this, and the war, was a good rallying point for the democrats to eradicate the evil President Bush. Sadly, it was all about politics, not principles.

For it.

The US ended the practice after Obama was sworn in. I should add that waterboarding was likely discontinued before then under Bush, but I think this formalized it. I also think it's the right decision.

Is there a method for extracting information that you prefer?

I'm all for it. I'm also for pouring oil in their mouths, shocking them, hanging them over cliffs, etc. Whatever it takes to get the information and keep the world safe.

I'm 1000% for it. I'm speaking in terms of terrorists.

I'm interested in hearing what could possibly make anyone against the use of it?

My Christian Convictions keep me from being for the use of any kind of torture.

My biggest problem with torture is what if the intelligence is wrong (gee that never happens) and the guy you have and you are sure has life saving information doesn't know what you think he knows and he goes through hours of torture that he can not stop since he does not have the information intelligence says he has.

When asked about torture, John McCain responded something like this;

"As someone who experienced torture first hand, I feel I can give a relevant answer. My response to anyone who is for the use of torture, go through torture for a few hours and afterwards, let's see if you are still for the use of torture. My guess is the vast majority will change their opinion and would not be for torturing their worst enemy afterwards."

Now, while against torture, I do not have a problem with interrogators using sodium pentothal. While the serum will confuse and disorient the captive and hopefully allow the interrogator to trick the captive into giving up information that otherwise would not have been given up, after the serum wears off, I am not aware of any after affects.

Also, many US troops are against torture because the know their treatment if captured will be much rougher as a form of pay back should the enemy be informed of our using torture.

And it's immoral.
