September 20, 201214 yr I'm not convinced Mitch will fire Joker this year. Regardless of the fan outrage. I wasn't either until they lost to WKU. If they only beat Samford from this point on, even Mitch's patience will run out IMO.
September 20, 201214 yr Ron Zook would make a pretty good fit. He has coached in the SEC in the past and currently he is not coaching. I just read through this whole thread looking to see if someone mentioned his name. I agree! Didn't he coach under Urban at Florida? Also, he seems to do a pretty good job at recruiting. He had some success when he was at Illinois. He also had some pretty good players. His problem there was he didn't have a big time QB. I think UK has a very good QB in the wings for the next 4 years. If UK can get a new coach like Zook that can recruit and add a few top offensive linemen, then this offense will take off with Pat Towles.

I think Mitch's patience with Brooks, and subsequent payoff, will cloud his judgement with Joker and he'll stick with him through the length of his contract. As long as basketball is firing on all cylinders, Mitch can afford to be as patient as he wishes.

Olympic sports need funding and if football isn't covering the bill with ticket sales there will be no choice but to make a change...

September 20, 201214 yr Mitch knows he needs to make a home run hire. Someone like Petrino or Leach would excite the fan base. If he makes a hire and UK doesn't improve and tickets continue to stay low, the Big Blue Nation might be calling for his job next.
September 20, 201214 yr Is there anyone from FCS or DII, I wonder. I think there are some good coaches in these divisions. I can't name any off the top of my head but there are perennial national championship contenders in DII. I suspect those men know how to coach.
September 20, 201214 yr What bothers me about Joker. 1. He hangs his hat on recruiting, but gets out recruited by Vandy which has worse facilities and tradition. 2. He hangs his hat on recruiting then says he just doesn't have the players he needs to win. 3. He hangs his hat on recruiting and thinks he should get a pass on on motivation, player development, game planning, and in game adjustments.
