Unless they completely fall apart (which I suppose is possible) like 1-11, 0-8 in the SEC and/or a loss to the one remaining “scheduled victory” – Samford – left, he’ll be back next year. Reasons:

1. He’s got two more seasons after this one on his current contract, and has a nice little buyout clause which the cash strapped football budget won’t incur...especially with season ticket sales at all time lows.
   
2. He’s had 2 highly rated (for UK standards) recruiting classes in a row that are underclassmen, with some not so great (like MAC not SEC level) upperclassmen, the risk of losing many of those guys and sending the program into a 3 year minimum tailspin is too great.
   
3. Maybe most importantly, who are they going to get? Joker is one guy (Kentucky born/bred, UK grad) for whom this is a dream job. He won’t jump ship if he is ever successful...which hasn’t happened since Bear Bryant so maybe that’s not really an issue. They’ve never been able to attract anyone worth a darn to the position (smallest built-in talent base in the SEC, one of the only true “basketball schools” in the SEC, one of the smaller stadiums and football operating budgets, etc, etc), so they have to try and tap some up-and-comer from a smaller program.

He certainly jumped ship to move on to greener pastures...which frankly aren't so green for him any more (after the Baylor job he became Kentucky State's offensive line coach, and now he's the head coach at Texas A&M Commerce). But regardless, I don't know how successful I would call 9-14 in two seasons at UK.

Considering he was coming in off the Mumme scandal, I thought he was solid going 7-5 in his second season. Should have been 8-4 without the LSU 80 yard miracle throw. I honestly thought embarrassment from that game helped him make the decision to leave.

I believe that if he can come up with a couple of SEC wins, Joker will be back on the UK sidelines next year.

Ron Zook would make a pretty good fit. He has coached in the SEC in the past and currently he is not coaching.

I'd put Bobby Petrino, Jim Tressel and Jon Gruden at the top of the list. It's time to pay the money to get a big name coach that knows how to win.

I'm not convinced Mitch will fire Joker this year. Regardless of the fan outrage.
