Is $$$ boosters and such? I like Franklin. I think some of the slight he brought on himself and some isn't fair. It's a shame some people won't let things go. It's a shame he'll more than likely will go and never be able to come home.

 

That's it. There's a short list of about 5-7 boosters that have blackballed Tony from ever coming back to campus as long as they are donating money.

Don't feel sorry for Tony though. He's got a great situation at La. Tech right now and he's coaching a darn good football team as well.

I'll give a name nobody has thrown out there and I think he would come, especially if enough cash, but Paul Johnson from Georgia Tech.

But, Im here to tell you; Oregon, Florida and Auburn (w/ Cam Newton and even today) are nothing more than Wing T/Wishbone Option offenses from a variety of spread looks. Nothing more.

 

Gus Malzahn (even though I think he will be in the mix at Arkansas) would be a great hire as well.

 

Speaking of Gus Malzahn and to go along with the above, I heard him speak at a clinic last year in front of about 750 other fans/coaches, etc in Nashville and he was talking about his offense at Auburn (in particular, the National Title year), and he was talking about how that entire year, the fans at Auburn and everywhere else thought they they were running some wild, new, crazy offense when all it was, and I quote, "The Wing T from the Shotgun.....but, you cant tell people in 2010 that you are running the Wing T in Div. 1 College Football, they'd think you were nuts and I'd be out of a job."

Interestingly, Petrino once predicted the spread option in college football, said it was the natural answer to the zone blitz philosophy.

Trust me when I say this, but I dont have any inside informationl; none.

 

Just think about it:

 

1) Georgia Tech will never be the top dog (no pun intended) in Georgia.

2) Kentucky will always be #1 in this state, no matter how well Louisville does. It would take years of Louisville being at the top and UK being in the gutter (in both football and basketball) for that to even semi change.

3) Georgia Tech, even with their recent success packs what...50-60K tops into the stands?

He could come to a place like UK and average 6-9 wins a year and the next thing you know, Commonwealth expands it's stadium to 80-85K

4) The challenge of the job (+ the money that he could get paid). People said his spread option (flexbone) attack wouldnt work at Navy when he left Georgia Southern. Well, he proved those people wrong. Those same people said it couldnt work in the ACC, it has (granted, they havent won a bowl game).

 

For the cash and the challenge, not to mention he would be in a state and at a program where his program is #1, I think he'd do it.

 

Ask Alabama how tough it is it prepare for the Flexbone triple option in a week. Georgia Southern rushed for over 350 yards and 35+ points against 'bama last year. It just flat out is an offense that you dont see anymore. It's tough to prepare for that.

 

Patrick Towles would be just the QB to run that type of show, also.

 

I'm stating nothing more than wishful/reasonable thinking here. I think he's a big name coach that would be within the price that UK would be willing to pay. He makes around 2.25-2.5 Million at GA Tech right now. For $3-$3.5 million, I'd say he'd come.....if ole' Mitch wanted him.

Here is what Paul Johnson does that would fit UK with his Flex Bone triple option. It allows you to take lesser talent and compete weekly.

 

I just dont think those with influence would allow it. They want to see points on the score board. Offense isnt UK problem it is defense and recruiting.

The flexbone is a great offense but I don't see PJ coming here. I also don't see Towles as a flexbone option qb. I can see him in malzahn's system

Thought I would bring this up after the game tonight... I'm sitting here watching La. Tech and Texas A&M battle and can't help but hope Sonny Dykes will be walking the sidelines next season at Commonwealth.

So true and probably correct about Tony. But heck, he could just get Donny Walker to run the Offense. He should know it pretty good by now.
