In regards to the 2 platoon system... In the first half the best athletes are not on the field because no one is going 2 ways. But what makes up for it is everyone is fresh in the second half.

So IMO a team that runs the 2 platoon system is likely slightly worse in the first half, but make up for it in the second.

Was that the case in this game?

Went to this one tonite...DCM is a great place to watch a game. The field is tucked in behind the HS & MS and not a bad seat in the house. Also, even if you stand it's a fantastic view.

HHS wins & this was the tale of 2 halves for sure. The Birds D changed what they were doing up front & whom they were doing it with. IMO that is a big reason BC was no longer running it up the middle. Turnovers also cost the Rebels, but a couple of them were forced.

An earlier post mentioned that these 2 teams will meet in November & I agree. BC has a very good team & made some fixable mistakes. Nice showing on the road & at Highlands no less. Impressive!

Hayes & Harris are a deadly combo of speed (Hayes) and a bruising back (Harris)...

Birds put up 52. That is strong, especially since the O was not really clicking in the 1st

half. As always, return teams are a strength for Highlands.

Spot on.

Had a great time hanging out with QRyche, PP92 and his son, Clyde and mexitucky before the game. Had the pleasure of meeting Whack'em, Rebel4Life, RCC9, and FTBigbird. Great seeing LN and guru again as well. Hope I didn't forget anyone. Really enjoyed watching the game with PP92 (and little 92, until a cute little Rebel fan caught his eye and off he went). Smart kid!

I agree with PP92, Qryche, Rebel and a few others. I don't know why Boyle went away from what they were doing in the first half, although I do credit the Birds for making some adjustments. The turnovers were huge early 3rd quarter and mighty mo quickly changed. Glad to see the Birds win this one, but Boyle has one heck of a team and several players with some wheels! I really hope to see a rematch.

Congrats to the Birds on a "gut-check" comeback victory! Shout out to Coach Weinrich for excellent half-time adjustments and also to "the Magician", Coach Scott Turner, for moldng an O-line that seemed to be busting massive holes in Boyles D-line all night. I reckon' it helps to have a stud like Scotty Jr. leading te troops. (If anyone can post the names of the entire O-line, please do. These boys deserve as much recognition as the stable of horses that tote the ball!) A someone posted in another thread, (albeit about another team) "New year, same Highlands".

What kind of size does HHS have on the defensive side of the ball, especially on the D-line?

Going from a 3 back set to a 1 back set hurt us way more than getting gassed did. We were still running up the middle without problem. We just quit doing it at the wrong time IMO. I didn't see gassed players until it was too late. Nobody was tired when we were winning.

Spot on.

I think it was two-fold, Highlands was running a defense in the first half that is not their normal and Boyle ate their lunch. Second, Boyle didn't have enough nickles in their pocket. Highlands was much too deep and in excellent physical condition. The Birds looked as strong at the end as they did at kickoff. Very impressive.

I know you are jealous mex, you couldn't take your eyes off of me...

Boyle dominated the first half, but the two fumbles cost them the game. The first fumble was an exchange between the QB and RB that is gonna happen. The second fumble was a bad coaching call, Boyle was near the Highlands 25 yard line and dropped back to pass and fumbled. This is after they gained 225 yards on the ground. Boyle also left two TD's hanging, both were passes one was to an end the QB over threw and the other was a slant pass the receiver dropped, he was WIDE open with forward momentum it was a 40 yard TD pass, they need to polish their passing game. Boyle also just gave up the big plays to Highlands in the second half Highlands hit two plays for over 50 yards, if they don't to this, this game goes down to the wire.

Highlands.... offense was just not in sync in the first half, mainly the first quarter. McCoy was over throwing recievers and #45 was not gaining yards up the gut. SECOND HALF, Highlands lets McCoy run the ball and let #23 Hayes run the ball, this won Highlands the game. They were simply to fast and in to good of shape for Boyle to contain. #45 did a better job in the second half as well punching the ball for gains. Highlands passing game was a C+ they will need to tune it up. If Highlands uses McCoy's legs and gives Hayes 10-15 carries a game they are going to be difficult to deal with for 4 quarters

In the second half after the turnovers and muffed kick returns by Boyle you could just tell the wheels came off for Boyle and Highlands put the nails in the coffin. Fun game to watch can't wait for the rematch.

I want to give a shout out to (Frosh) Jared Daugherty for stepping up and doing a great job kicking the ball..:ylsuper:

Guilty as charged

Any word on the Highlands frosh game at Trinity today?

I, for one, am kinda impressed that Boyle was able to come to Fort Thomas and put up 31 on Highlands. I know I wasn't at the game...but I didn't honestly expect Highlands to give up that many points.

I took a look back at the records and (I don't think I over looked any games) the last time a team hung up 31 or more on Highlands at home was September 23, 2005 against St. Francis Desales, OH which was a loss for Highlands. Cov Cath and Dixie came close a couple of times but neither have made the 30 mark at Highlands in the past 7 years. Considering Boyle had a less than stellar second half that really says a lot about what this team is capable of and they should certainly be proud.
