April 8, 201313 yr Played Saturday at Bright Leaf (Harrodsburg). Course is in decent shape, rye grass fairways like this weather, don't like it when it gets hot and dry. Wind was whipping pretty good and affected play. Shot an 88...could have easily been an 80, just had a couple of bad holes jump up out of nowhere...but thats golf I guess. Satisified with that score this early in the season. Played Lincoln Homestead (Springfield) Sunday. Fairways still dormant, rough has not been cut and was easily US Open high and thick as cold molassass. Wind was blowing like crazy and really messed with your shot negitively on most holes. Shot a 92...some of that was due in part to wind/conditions, some due to just flat out bad play. No driving range here to warm up, and that always hurts me, I need to hit 15-20 balls to warm up/get in the groove, the 49 on the front and the 43 on the back shows that, usually takes me a good 5 or 6 holes to start swinging well when I play here due to not being able to warm up on a driving range. But hey, at least I was out playing golf.:up:

April 10, 201313 yr How is Golfnow for resorts and etc... Depends on what your definition of "resort" is. Peninsula in Garrod Co is considered somewhat of a "resort" course as they have the cabins and the stay and play, as is and does Brightleaf in Harrodsburg. However, neither of these places will ever be confused with Pinehurst or even somewhere like Barefoot Landing in Myrtle Beach. With that said, GolfNow has all kinds of deals at places like Peninsula and Brightleaf. True top level resort courses I have not seen daily tee time specials advertised, but I haven't gone looking for them either. I do believe the advertise some special deals on their home page for resort courses, but again those are more packages and not a daily tee time.

For $89.99, you get a pass to play 18 holes with cart at the following 6 courses: Tates Creek Golf Course Picadome - Gay Brewer, Jr Course Kearney Hills Golf Links Lakeside Golf Course Connemara Golf Course Gibson Bay Pass goes on sell April 19th. Barring any restrictions (can't use on weekend, etc.) then thats a heck of a deal. I have played all these courses, and all fairly recently except for Lakeside, haven't been there in a while. Not a bad course in the lot, though some might disagree with me a bit on that. Connemara used to be pretty bad, but with new ownership taking over 3 or 4 years ago the course is much better. TC and Picadome are both old style tight courses, neither are very long but you have to hit it straight. Gibson Bay and Kearney both usually get high marks from most everyone who plays them and are considered two of the better public courses in the state, though personally I'm not a huge fan of Gibson Bay...I really can't tell you why, just not. Lakeside takes some knocks sometimes, especially for it's conditioning in dry hot summers, but it's not a bad course and plays long from the tips if you are a big hitter.
April 12, 201313 yr Played for the first time of the year last Saturday and shot fairly decent. I warned the houses that butt up to the course they may want to keep the kids inside but actually kept all my drives in play and fairly straight. Short game was a little off but putting was consistent. Club opener is Saturday and its going to be a little chilly at 8:30am, should be interesting.

April 17, 201313 yr Got 7 in at the club (FMCC) yesterday and bogeyed every hole. The storms came and that was it. I actually hit it pretty well, 3 putted twice and enjoyed the few holes. 1st time out since October. Never know how the first time out will go. I'm an 17 hdc, so played about normal.

It's a fun course, I prefer the Pioneer but that's because I'm awful and still very much learning the game at this point. Played Fox Run about 3-4 times last year. It's a really nice course and I believe is the premiere course of Kenton County. This is from their site. Fox Run, designed by renowned architect Arthur Hills, is consistently rated one of the most challenging public courses in the State of Kentucky. Another masterpiece by renowned architect Arthur Hills, this distinctively different golf course provides a wonderful blend of architectural style from hole to hole. Here you will find links-type holes which somewhat resemble that of a Scottish golf course. There is a sampling of Carolina-type holes with drastic changes in elevation from tee to green. Finally, there is a balance of more traditional mid-western style golf holes: all of which gracefully blend with the natural terrain and surrounding environment. The absence of housing and condo developments within the course allows the golfer to truly experience nature in its spectacular beauty. According to the site it's around 6500 if you play from the gold tees. Trying to think of where the starting point is, I believe it's on the opposite side of the course away from the main clubhouse so if you've never been to Kenton County you should get to enjoy a short ride past the first few holes of Pioneer and some of the holes for Willows as well.
April 17, 201313 yr Played California last week off of Kellogg Ave in Cincinnati and was really disappointed in condition of the course. Greens were really bumpy and if you were just a little off of fairway you were hitting off of mud not grass. Played Lassing Pointe as well in Union and it was in much better shape.

Some really great holes. 18 is a weird hole. Supposed to be risk reward but a little too fake for me. Not natural with the landscape like the rest of the course. Overall, you should enjoy it.
