The 2016 State Am will be conducted at Bellefonte Country Club(I am a current BCC member) in Ashland. Anybody played in previous State Ams or played at BCC?

 

I saw the course when they hosted the high school regional tournament about 15 years ago. Beautiful course. And zoysia fairways had just been put in, which I liked. It's been a while but if memory serves me correctly it is a challenging layout.

I was a member til we moved. Best course in the tri-state.

Short, but the rough is thick. Trees protect everthing. Quite a bit of water. From the back some of the holes are tough, namely the signature hole #15 (For me at least). 216 from the back over water to a sloped green protected by a giant bunker. Ugh

Getting ready to setup another round of lessons before the season kicks off. I'd love to get in the low 80's high 70's on a consistent basis.

I've played in 4 State Ams. 1997 (Crooked Creek), 1998 (Eagle Trace), 1999 (Lake Forest) and 2010 (Gibson Bay).

Used to be a 4 day tournament until 1999.

I haven't played Bellefonte in a LONG time. Wasn't a big fan of it, but it sure was nice!

BCC is short and tight. When good players come(AJGA, etc) they expect to chew it up, but the reverse happens. At the end of AJGA week there is only one or two players under par. It's a position golf course, few flat lies, several challenging greens. It's a fun, challenging beautiful course. I expect the top score in the State Am to be in the range of -12 to -14. Those guys can play.

I tried to qualify and was successful both times. Lakeside in 1978(made the cut) and Big Spring in 1979(missed the cut. College got in the way and I never tried again. Maybe in 2016.

I knew it was time for me to hit the road when I shot even par the first day at Gibson Bay and was tied for 36th Place. There are some really good amatuers in KY.

In my first State Am, I had been playing well(was young and didn't know any better)...opening round I was minus 1 with three holes to play and finished even. Played with a guy named Kevin Carey(nicknamed Kevin Crush) and he literally hit it 75+ yards past me--I learned real quick there was no golf future for me. I made the cut and was never heard from again:)

Shot 77 from the senior tees at Laurel Oaks today. There were 6 of us, split into two threesomes and finished in 2:40.

Played Pendleton Co yesterday in the Bellevue Football Outing. Nice track, the greens were well taken care of and I converted 3 long Birdie putts for our group.

Is that Belterra? If so, very nice and tough golf course. I've only played it once and that was in March of 2013. I'd love to play it again, although I've heard it can be a bit swampy up there in the summer.

Played at Raven Rock today and the tee boxes were awful. They're reseeding them with new grass.

Yes Belterra and very tough. I broke 100 and was ecstatic.
