That's what I was thinking. I use a 60 about 85% of the time around the greens. I love that thing. I was horrible with it at first but once you get the hang of it they are a life saver.

 

So many ways to skin a cat. Around the greens I use an 8-iron with a putter grip a lot, then a gap wedge or 56 depending on how much green I have. Only time I use a 60 around the greens is a horrible lie or a flop shot.

Agreed, often times I could easily do something else but I've gotten pretty darn good with I don't need to.

More people should figure this out, not over-think it, and develop a great short game / putting before all else. Lord knows, if I couldn't chip and putt I'd be a 10 hdcp; my game from tee to green is just okay.

I agree, around the green is where the strokes are at. I started putting a lot of work into my short game and it has shaved the strokes from my score by a lot.

I haven't been able to play much lately, but I did purchase some new wedges last week. I got the Vokey 54 and 58 degrees, replacing my Cleveland 54 and 58 degress. I've been playing golf 25 years and this will only be the 4th 58 degree I've ever had in the bag.

46? What kind of distance are you using it for? Using it as Pitching Wedge?

Nope, I meant 46. I love the balance and the weight and the profile. In the fairway, I use it out to 120. Frankly, I hit little knockdown shots with it between 60 and 80 if the green will allow. I never hit my pitching wedge anymore since I have it. Really, I should just take it out of the bag. I have a 58 I use in the bunker or lies that require it. I seldom hit it from the fairway with my ball flight.

I played 2 courses for the first time in the Louisville area last weekend. Played Heritage Hills in Bullitt Co. and it was really nice. In good shape, greens weren't perfect but very even throughout the course. I really liked it. Shot 82, missed 3 putts I should have made, but also chipped one in I shouldn't have.

I also played Nevel Meade in Oldham Co. Love the course, it's really difficult on you for the first time. Blind shots normal on a links course. And it's always windy, which is hard to deal with when you have my ball flight. I shot 85, not too disappointed in that except had 2 doubles in a row on the back, kinda stunk. Both on holes I should par. We play from the tips, and man some par 3's these days are a nightmare from back there.

I'm buying new clubs for my birthday towards the end of February.

I plan on spending at least a half day at Edwin Watts in Lexington hitting clubs before I make a purchase.

The current front runners are the Titleist AP1 or AP2's with the Taylormade rocketballs as a possibility also.

I've read nothing but great reviews on the Ping I25 for the driver.

 

Anyone hit the Nike Covert 2.0's ? Adjustable loft fairway woods and hybrids have me very interested in these.

 

A new bag is also a must. I gotta get a cart bag with the 17 way fully divided individual top. Can't stand jamming my clubs together in my current 4 way top.

I also got a new putter for Christmas. I didn't have anything against my Odyssey White Ice, I actually like it. Not sure what I'm going to do now I have this one it is a TM Ghost Tour Mallet and it was rated as one of the best putters out either last year or year before...
