July 10, 201412 yr Engineering students had a very low priority on CPU time. I often spent the wee hours of the night running my jobs. One of the toughest challenges I had was to tear my print-outs from the line printer without ripping somebody else's to shreds. A single typo, and you were back at the end of the line but the lines were shorter at 2 or 3 AM. Forgot all about that. Brought me down memory lane. The printouts with the holes down the sides and the paper shredding. :no: And the lines.....

July 12, 201412 yr I have begun listening to an audible.com book titled An Officer and a Spy, which is a historical novel based on the Dreyfuss Affair. I recently attended an awards ceremony where a general recommended the book and gave a copy to his outgoing executive officer. So far, the book has been excellent. I have also started reading Node.js, MongoDB, and AngularJS Web Development. So far, this has been the best book about the MEAN web development stack that I have seen.
July 12, 201412 yr JP's Invisible. The detective work is interesting and suspenseful, and makes for an easy summer read. But I have to admit that I'm so over the detailed escapades of the deranged serial killer they are trying to catch.

July 16, 201412 yr Waiting for "The Knife Man" by Wendy Moore to arrive from Amazon. I'd never heard about it, but then I was reading in Paste Magazine where AMC ordered a pilot for a show based on the book and it got me very interested. It's a non-fiction book about John Hunter - a Scottish surgeon who is often cited as the origin of many of the most basic modern surgery practices. He apparently was a major contributor to medical science's treatments of gunshot wounds, venereal diseases, digestion issues, child development, fetal development, and lymphatic system, as well as providing initial theorems on animal origins that provided an early inspiration for Darwin's research and development of the theory of evolution. Didn't have a chance to read this one until vacation last week. INCREDIBLY interesting on lots of levels. Definitely recommend it - particularly for anyone with interests in history and/or science.
July 19, 201412 yr Just started Michael Koryta's new book, Those Who Wish Me Dead. So far, so good. July 22, 201412 yr Just finished the second book in the Shaw Series, Deliver Us From Evil by Baldacci. It might have been my favorite book that I've read by him and Shaw is definitely my favorite character. Picked this book up at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago and just never got around to reading. Finally did so this weekend. Started it Sunday afternoon, finished it last night. Good read!
