September 22, 201411 yr Author Finished the first book in Kate Elliott's "Crown of Stars" series. Started on the second one this morning. Reminiscent of Game of Thrones but with more of a medieval Europe/religious bent.

October 1, 201411 yr Just finished Capital in the Twenty-First Century by Thomas Picketty. It's easily been the most buzzed about book in political economy this year, and I've heard several commentators herald it as the most important work in economics since Keynes' General Theory of Employment , Interest and Money. For being an economics tome it's very accessible (Picketty spends a good portion of the introduction chastising his discipline for being out of touch and opaque). It's translated into English from French, but it reads very well. If you're interested in politics and economics it's too important to overlook.

Having just finished the book I thought a few of Roberts' criticisms/questions were a little lazy (I think you can hear Piketty sigh as he's asking them), and I was hoping for more of a spirited debate on the implications of the book, but I could have easily listened to another hour of their back-and-forth.

Roberts gets infuriating at times. He has the exactly the brand of academic libertarianism that gets to be completely unhelpful when talking about actual specifics... but he always has on interesting guests. Picketty was really compelling.
