October 13, 201411 yr A Game of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire Book 1. I'm about 3 quarters through it and love it. It's not exactly what I expected, though I'm not sure what my expectations were. I like the style. I've never seen an episode of the TV series and don't plan on watching any of them. I think it would spoil my minds eye of Martin's fantasy world. I plan on being through book 5, "A Dance with Dragons", by spring, but I'm in no hurry.

One thing that makes the series so rewarding is that Martin strings clues throughout the plot that set up future events, so speculating on what will happen next is encouraged. There are hundreds of theories (most of them crazy, but still entertaining) based on the perceived foreshadowing and piecing things together.

I have a couple of books on the shelf I've never read before: "The Exorcist" - William Blatty "Johnny Got His Gun" - Dalton Trumbo "Rosemary's Baby" - Ira Levin And I want to re-read a couple things that I've set aside and would love to roll through again: "The Stand" - Stephen King "House of Leaves" - Mark Danielewski Don't know if I can do all five before my mind snaps back into place and I remember that I don't like being scared. That will happen on or about November 1.
