So what those who didn't like 85's point of view are saying is that they are equally bothered by a 17-18 year old boy having sex with a teacher as a 17-18 girl having sex with a teacher?

 

My line of thinking is along the lines of 85's. There is a different set of rules for teenage boys and girls in my household as well. Is it fair or right? Probably not. As a guy I know what guys are thinking and I know how guys manipulate girls. Especially young girls. I can't think of one person I graduated with who wouldn't have had sex with the hot teacher if they had a chance.

 

I have both a daughter and a son. My instincts for protecting them do not have (nor had) any different set of rules for them because they 1 was male and 1 was female. This issue transcends sex. At it's core, it's about an adult taking advantage of a child over which they have authority. I'd have been furious with either of my children if they had entered into such a relationship with a teacher or any other figure. And I 'd have been BEYOND furious with the teacher.

 

This is exactly as bad as the priest abuse scandals or the Penn State scandal. These people are in positions of authority and TRUST and they violate both.

I wish my daughter would move in with me. I feel that she will before high school is over.

There is definately a double standard, right or wrong. If this happened in one more month, we wouldn't have heard about it because school is out. If this student gets a summer job and has sex with his 33 year old femail boss, would this be considered wrong also.

IMO, you should never have relations with someone who can pass/fail you or hire/fire you so teachers and bosses are off limits.

I wonder how many of you would be as excited for your son if the woman who has seduced him is someone closer the family, like your best friend's wife for instance.

"Trophy dads" are those fathers who would pat their son on the back and congratulate him for have sex with a teacher. These dads see this as a great accomplishment worthy of putting a trophy on the mantel to signify this feat.

To teach your son that women are nothing more than trophies -- mere objects to be attained -- sends them a very dangerous message. It's a message that will lead them to a life of emptiness, loneliness and pain. And the damage isn't just limited to the son; it spreads like a virus to every woman with whom he tries to form a bond, and every child he brings into this world.

Totally agree. Is it possible that there is any correlation between the rather cavalier attitude toward sex that I've read in posts from 92 and 85 and the fact that 72% of black children are fatherless and frankly are having all kinds of problems? 72 Percent of African-American Children Born to Unwed Mothers
