Science Friction
I ask this question because I have been having some back and neck pain. I recently had some MRI's, which indicated no need for surgery but I'm still left with some problems in my neck, back, and shoulder area. There is a pinching sensation in my neck, some general back pain, and some discomfort in my left shoulder, probably from inflammation. I just feel like I need someone to put their hands on me and work out the "kinks." My osteopath, with more than 30 years experience, has no faith in chiropractors and is quick to delegitimize their usefulness. From my experience, most MDs are highly critical of chiropractic "medicine." I have no idea because I have never been to a chiropractor. However, my gut feeling is that there is something to it that may be helpful. Has anyone had experience with a chiropractor? Did it help you? What have you heard from others who have had chiropractic therapy? I am inclined to give it a try, despite my osteopathic physician saying that it is quackery. Thoughts or advice , please. TheDeuce
I would highly suggest going to one if you are having back/neck issues. I have used them in the past and they definitely helped me. I usually get instant relief after adjustments, and then overall progress over time with continued treatments. I love the chiro.
lawildcat
Mr. Cat swears by his chiropractor and I encourage him to continue going because his mood before and after make it totally worth it! I tried it once myself and was not a fan. Just didn't trust those neck adjustments!
Science Friction
Mr. Cat swears by his chiropractor and I encourage him to continue going because his mood before and after make it totally worth it! I tried it once myself and was not a fan. Just didn't trust those neck adjustments! That does scare me a bit. However, I can't help but feel there is something to it. Maybe MD's just hate the competition from the so-called alternative medicine crowd. I am inclined to give it a try. Thank you for the info . Habib
I think for what you described it could help. At least I felt looser for a few days after going. But they are almost certainly quacks too. I'd never been to one before my first time, and as I sat waiting I read their posters and literature. They essentially believe that different vertebrae or joints are associated with everything from the common cold to cancer, and by having these adjusted you can avoid these illnesses, be happier, live longer, etc. And that's basically quasi-spiritual nonsense, as far as I can tell. But if you need your back cracked and your muscles massaged they will do it. :lol2:

ColonelCrazy
I recommend you see an orthopaedic specialist/surgeon first. Once the ortho reviews the diagnostic testing (and perhaps orders additional imaging), you can ask the ortho what he/she recommends. It's possible they'll recommend physical therapy or chiropractic treatment. Chiropractic treatment can be very beneficial, but typically it only offers short-term relief if you have a significant issue. It may help on a day to day basis, but it won't "fix" the problem like physical therapy (or surgery) can.
nees1212
I know a lady that swears by her chiropractor. She claims it keeps her healthy as she's never sick. If she feels something coming on, she'll go for an adjustment instead of her family doctor. I've been before after hurting my back years ago, and while the adjustment and massages felt great, I can't say it was a huge benefit in going. plantmanky
I had an ex that used to give my neck a chiropractic adjustment when she slapped me when I got out of line.
