Big win for the Cards.... Big Al will have Hazard rolling by the end of the year.

Holmes 53 Conner 46
No team has steam rolled through their entire schedule...Holmes didn't play well vs. Seneca but won, and won vs. Conner. Margin of victory in December means nothing in late Feb. early March. Holmes is #1 right now IMO, a team doesn't have to win by 20 a night to impress people, the same goes for Elliott, just because they shoot poorly or play poorly which they will do at some point, they will still win the game, and I'm sure everyone will jump on the "they're-not-as-good" bandwagon. I think we sometimes criticize or pamper teams too much from game to game. But I guess this is a message board created to do just that, huh?

Closed practices
One of the biggest problems in H.S. sports are problem parents. It's a small % but nearly every place has them...if a coach wants it closed, then it should be closed.

Ironton, OH 83 Russell 43
Skaggs started 25 games and the rest of the team did not have a combined 20 starts. Rebuilding will take time. Program was left in poor shape. Cooksey not even on the team now. May played 8 total minutes last season and Goble played 3 total miniutes. Whittaker has been injured all season. No excuses form the staff. They will put the time in at all levels and get the program back to competing with RUSSELL kids. BTW I never remember Russell ever having 11 seniors on the team.

I know it's early but.......
In the 16th it has to be Morgan CO. as one of the pleasant surprises. The Lady Cougars lost 4 starters basically. 3 to graduation and their best 3 point shooter before the season tore acl. Lost 5 players total that included valuable leadership. In addition, they lost their 2nd leading scorer after the first game for a few weeks and after all of that are 3-2 with big district wins over East and West Carter.

What a performance by Coach Carr's Eagles! They have been playing much better basketball the last few games. Proving once again, that Brad Carr is one of Kentucky's finest coaches and is one of the most well respected from all corners of the state. Everyone notices how hard his kids play and he does an outstanding job at developing talent.

Ironton, OH 83 Russell 43
Ironton in currently undefeated. The Tigers would definitely be a top 2 or 3 team in the 16th Region this season. Devils are playing hard just a little undermanned at this point. Lost three seniors last year who scored most of the points and garnered most of the rebounds last season.

Rowan County 65 Notre Dame 61 (OT)
Rowan is feared to be better than last season, they can really play and are very athletic. They carried the 16th region banner proudly in this tournament.

Morgan County 51 East Carter 44 (OT)
I'm not positive that she's had full blown interest from Eastern Kentucky University, but fairly sure there has been some contact and some interest in Leslie Eagle. Why MSU hasn't even offered a sniff is no surprise to many around these parts. She is not from SE Ohio, Michigan or Indiana...I guess:rolleyes:

Morgan County 51 East Carter 44 (OT)
Morgan's Leslie Eagle hit a shot at the buzzer to send the game into overtime, tied at 42-42. Tessa Henry added a clutch 3 in the overtime period to help the Lady Cougars preserve the district win. Eagle had 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. Sophomore Tessa Henry had 9points, Sophomore Monika McCowan added 8 points for the Lady Cougars.

Two big wins in a row for Scott High School. Both were kind of surprises...the Eagles seem to be clicking now.

Is Rowan better than last year? Coach Tackett has them rolling.

East Carter vs. Morgan County
Morgan handled the pressue and had several great looks at the basket. Morgan trailed only 39-36 with 1:37 to play I think and East Carter would hit their free throws down the stretch to win by 8 47-38. Mark Pemberton played an excellent game for the Raiders and Colt Barnhill is an outstanind player. Very fundament and knows how to operate in the post. Kyle Bair hit some clutch mid range jumpers and Tyler Jackson is a pure athlete. Morgan played their typical strong defense and had several opportunities to get over the hump as they kept hanging around. Two very well coached teams had both teams prepared quite well. Cougars are really going to surprise more people in this region. They are not the 10th ranked team in the 16th...they are athletic and play 7 guys that can get after it. Congrats to East Carter and a tip of the hat to the effort of the Morgan County Cougars last evening.

Lewis County 56 Betsy Layne 50
Head Coach JOE HAMPTON wins his 100th career game! Congrats to Coach Hampton and the Lions.

Best Backcourt In Kentucky?
I will reiterate in this thread that HOLMES is the one team that I think can trump Elliott County in the match up department. Not saying that guarantees a victory over them...but knowing both teams personnel, Holmes has the pieces of the puzzle needed. In addition I think JaMel Riley has made like 23 of 27 shots (Season) and was 5-6 (3 PT FG) vs. Scott County I believe. Coach Henley has said that Riley may be the best shooter he has ever coached and that would include his time he spent as an assistant at DuQuesne and Murray State. The length, speed, and ability to play above the rim is the type of team that is needed to beat Elliott.... However, in all of my time around basketball, I have never witnessed a team play harder than this Elliott County team does...they do remind you of a Breckenridge County (Except Elliott is offensively much better) and even Marion County that was led by Anthony Epps.
