Ironton, OH 83 Russell 43

Featured Replies

Wow, that's a very impressive win for Ironton

Russell trying to rebound from Doddicide!

Ironton in currently undefeated. The Tigers would definitely be a top 2 or 3 team in the 16th Region this season. Devils are playing hard just a little undermanned at this point. Lost three seniors last year who scored most of the points and garnered most of the rebounds last season.

I think that argument was more true the previous year when Russell lost 11 of the top 13. ;) It may take the Devils another year to compete for the region.

I believe that thanks to the playing time certain Juniors received last year plus their 2008 summer development that the following holds true.

Alexander > Mabery

Stapleton > Ferguson

Whittaker, Goble > Bender

Also, Davidson, Cooksey or May > Bender

Skaggs started 25 games and the rest of the team did not have a combined 20 starts.

Rebuilding will take time. Program was left in poor shape.

Cooksey not even on the team now. May played 8 total minutes last season and Goble played 3 total miniutes. Whittaker has been injured all season. No excuses form the staff. They will put the time in at all levels and get the program back to competing with RUSSELL kids.

BTW I never remember Russell ever having 11 seniors on the team.

1. Kyle Skaggs represents the future of Russell basketball. Had Coach Dodd not noticed this last year and started him on varsity as a 7th grader, the program would be further behind. By the end of his senior season, he will likely hold the all-time Russell scoring record.

2. I agree rebuilding will take time. That was stated before last season. But, to infer that Coach Dodd left it in bad shape is wrong. By next year these kids should be competing for the region.

3. May and Goble played JV last year and from what I've heard worked hard over the summer.

4. I have no doubt that the staff will work hard.

5. The fact that you posted "with Russell kids", leads me to believe you are referring to Blair and Vanhoose, who played for Russell four full years.

6. I never stated that Russell had 11 seniors, just that they had lost 11 players. If you care to research my previous posts for the last year, you can see who they are. I posted it once and don't wish to look it up again. Two of the kids moved that were being counted on to start last year.:D

** Best wishes to the Devils and the coaching staff. I know they will continue to work hard and they should be supported by the parents and fans.

 I'm sorry Duckster, but "Doddicide" is just funny!

Are you saying if a kid that didn't attend elementary school in Russell transfers to Russell, Kidwell won't take him?

What are you implying about "RUSSELL " kids and what is your definition of a

"RUSSELL' kid?

Where did this Carroll kid come from that is starting this year?

Just wondering if your logic is consistent with reality?

My guess is Kidwell would LOVE to see some kids transfer into RUSSELL school district who also play basketball.

We will take anything especially if it's over 6'5" and 225 lbs. Need to get the foreign exchange program going. Are you talking about Scotty Ross from Carroll Co.

Yeah, I got my county and my last name mixed up lol

But my point was, you would take any players you could get, and don't really care where they went to elementary school at. Which would be the posisiton of about every other Coach I know in Kentucky. My position would be when they come to your school, they become "your" kids and you put the most competitive team you can out on the floor. Anybody that starts talking about

where the kids are from before they came to your school is probally from Russia or some other communist background or has forgotten America is the land of opportunity and choices.

Oh, and did you know that most Elliot county starters did not go to elementary school in Sandy Hook?:scared:

As long as they are legitimate transfers (which all are according to the KHSAA) and not recruited or held back because their parents thought they would grow another foot, who cares. Ouch
