  1. No such person as a Mikie Adkins with relevance to football. 8 people will be interviewed for the job. There is NO leading candidate. False information above.
  2. Hoops Gal, Can you enlighten us on what qualities are comparable to Bobby Knight? Just never noticed any Bobby Knight (like) attributes of high school coaches in this area.
  3. Congratulations to our girls and coaching staff for the their first 62nd District title and the school's first since 1999 (61st District) Lady Cougars played very hard...I was also impressed with Coach Von Perry and how she had her team prepared at district time and you can tell that the Stevens girls has been coached! She is a talent. Very happy for a great bunch of girls.
  4. Read the article and believe Kidwell really was showing the appreciation of how well Raceland has developed their kids and their youth program, etc. Nice gesture toward Coach Trimble and staff for how they have made Raceland into a formidable team that is now respected. I remember just very recently how disrespected Morgan Co. girls team was and now Coach Jeff Brown, in much the same way as Raceland, has turned Morgan's program around and also have a great feeder system.... Russell at 17-10 is impressive when knowing they lost a boat load of talent from last season and Raceland overcoming illness and injury has become an outstanding team. Congrats to Raceland and both teams will be a tough out next week.
  5. GoRadio, I was melted into my seat and chalked by the asst. cheer coach and my hack buddy to my right, Big Al flanked the end with a straggler sitting on the steps... Coach Brown's wife probably does not have two good working kidneys right now, as I know my knees were puncturing them. Not all Cougar fans were there, many stayed home because the threat of snow and listened to the radio....toss up between 102.9 the Stoneman and 102.3 with Carper...radio frequencies were abuzz in WBGL last night I'm certain. Heard the performing arts center with the big screen is very awesome and an incredible place, around 30 or so watched in there from what I can gather. Overall, good atmosphere and I believe everyone got in and could see the game from either sitting, standing, or on the big screen. So everything was a :thumb: and hope it's packed again tomorrow night and then again on Friday for East/Elliott boys.
  6. Congrats to Coach David Henley and his Holmes Bullogs
  7. 7 will be interviewed. 3 were interviewed today and 4 more early next week.
  8. Congrats to a great group of girls! They will try for their first 62nd District Championship on Thursday and their 1st since (1998, 61st District)
  9. Incredible come from behind win. Sparks and Parsley led the charge. Congrats to Coach Kidwell on one of the state's largest come from behind wins this year I would think.
  10. SugarDaddy, I know the song you are thinking of that PRP chants...it's hilarious.. I'm sooooo glad, I go to P.R.P.....I'm sooooooo glad, I go to P.R.P, I'm sooooo, well you get the picture and use the imagination...it is funny though...the last line is classic.
  11. Both teams battled. Was an excellent game to watch. Breathitt is very well coached and talented. Congrats to the Lady Bobcats, great bunch of girls. Lady Cougars played hard and were a few missed opportunities away. They are playing better basketball and have an even more daunting task later this week at Montgomery County.
  12. I was wondering if Morgan was going to get to 35 points. Boyd and Morgan are not really offensive gifted as a few other teams in the region, but really, both school's are very fundamental defensively and can guard you. I've seen some Boyd County teams of old and some Morgan County teams just a few years back that would absolutley lock you down man to man in the half-court and teams would struggle to get a shot off. The 16th is a more defensive minded region and at the same token, offensively, are patient. But one last point, if you don't have 5 horses who can score at will, that will also lower the scoring totals. Both teams struggled to score tonight unless it was at point blank range. I can remember a halftime score of like 6-5 between Morgan Co. and Boyd Co. back in the mid 1980's...in the regional tournament. Now that is low.
  13. Offensive explosion in WBGL this evening. With the game tied at 35-35...Boyd worked for last shot...Morgan County tried in vain, tooth, blood, and nail to foul and hacked the daylights out of the dribbler. Whistle would not be blown...I don't know what else a player has to do to foul....a bump is foul, a hand check is a foul, all of that occurs in 31:54 of the game, but during the last 6 seconds you can drill someone, slap them (with what could be intentional foul) and it not be called. Unreal....then at 0:00 Boyd shoots a three and official called a foul on Morgan....and that was the right call, although Morgan Co. fans were livid....but the majority were really irritated at the young official who would not call the fould when Morgan County had only 5 team fouls...that is where in a 3 man crew, those things you would think would be known and official who is thinking ahead understands the game and what teams may or may not try to do. Boyd's kid hit 2nd free throw and ball game was over. Once again, he was clearly fouled and that was the right call...but to witness all the touch fouls called in this region and to watch someone beat the daylights out of them trying to foul and it go negated is beyond disbelief.
  14. Coach Brown said there was "a school" in WV., not WVU, that has shown interest. He told me but I have forgotten. I just wanted to make sure the accurate information was relayed. Lou is an exciting player. She can elevate and is explosive off the dribble. Her ability to be strong with the basketball is what will allow her to play at the next level. Which level? I am not sure, but she will play somewhere. ON some occassions she probably does need to be more assertive...and now as she is starting to shoot the "3" really well, that will only make defenders more wary about lagging off and exactly how to defend. Morgan Co. is not a Leslie Eagle show as evident in the season. Alyssa Dulen and Lara Hembree are long range threats and Hannah Fugate's intangibles is what will determine Morgan's post season run. The length of Kayla Kelly at 5'10" and Geri Humphreys defense have also made Morgan's defense very formidable. Personally, I wouldn't mind to see one Morgan Co. girl do what her daddy did in 1986 for the Morgan Co. boys basketball team. That would mean that our girls would be somewhere they haven't been or could be going!:sssh: It all boils down to 1 night. Elliott Co. on Feb. 26th is their season.
  15. Very well said Chiefsmoke. There are a bunch of continued wants and needs and over the course of time they will be done. There is a full committment not only by Morgan Co. Schools, but also the community businesses who have proved year in and year out, they support football as well. The Utopian H.S. football program is in the top 1-2% of football playing school's in Kentucky. And after reading about a lot of other school's searching for coaches, not every place outside of Morgan CO. is the perfect football scenario for coaches, players, or communities. Morgan Co. football needs a quality leader of the young men that make up the football team. They are ready to begin seeing gentlemen walk into the school for interviews and are anxious to meet someone who will help them succeed. Look for interviews to begin very shortly. MC Schools, I imagine have been and will continue to be doing extensive backgrounds and searching for the person that is the right fit for Morgan County. Like I said earlier, there are several more candidates this year and there is a good make up of quality at this point, of course we know, as in the past, things can change, people can drop out and of course...drop their name into the hat at the last minute. Personally, this is a very exciting time and I'm sure the aniticipation is just as exciting for our players.
  16. I have stated a million times before, "I wish...." that facilities would improve for Morgan County football; everyone living here wishes that. However, despite my personal desires and position, I'm only one voice. The football field does have a very nice bermuda turf that cost $21,000 that was put in two years ago, a new roof was placed on the exisiting Cougar Den last year, and although old and needing additional improvements, it is a very large place with open lockers, multiple rooms, meeting rooms, coaches rooms/locker area, and separate equipment rooms. The weight room went from the bottom part of the Cougar Den and moved into the high school gymnasium which has been a lot better, a sectioned off room with free weights were bought 4-5 years ago, with weight room flooring, etc. This room and practice day locker area is in the upper part of the gym but was convenient to do a few years back since they practice at the high school practice field and use the game day field only on game days. This current year we are looking at either construction or purchase of sit down wooden lockers for individual players to be put in this area for this season. To somewhat answer an earlier claim about administrative support for basketball and comparing to football in which some felt that was a discrepency. Well, try this on for size. Currently the only booster group that exists is the Quarterback Club. Administration dismantled the Tip-Off Club (Basketball) (Yes, when Morgan Co. boys were winning 20 games a year and championships each season). IN addition, the football players NEVER buy their own shoes for play. While the boy's and girl's basketball teams must pay 1/2 of the price of their shoes. The Quarterback Club raises enough money each and every year to purchase all shoes for its players and the kids are out $0 to play football at Morgan County, unless they want some things personally such as wristbands, etc. or non-essential items. It takes several thousand dollars each year to fund football, and Morgan County has always paid up. The new coach wanted head sets.....head sets were bought, a few years ago the coach wanted a new sled, a new sled was bought. In some school districts in Kentucky, the budget of the individual school or program must fund its transportation. In Morgan Co., all transportation is funded by the board without question.....if our football program wants to travel they are never denied or told it may cost too much to fund a driver and gas. That is something a lot of people don't take into consideration or think is a very big deal but in the long run it is...ask a few schools in Floyd Co., about that aspect of transportation budget. A few last comments about administrative support. The administration is supporting the basketball program now just like it did from 1999-2006 in which saw Morgan County becoming one of the winningest programs in Kentucky....actually, it was during those times that Morgan Co. would operate on a less than 2K budget for the year and the only thing bought were a set of uniforms (in their rotation cycle), practice uniforms (2) times in 7 years, some tape, pre-wrap, 3 whistles, and 3 score books. Also, in 2001 Morgan County wanted to build wooden lockers in their locker area but were told "NO" because of OSHA standards. Football can if they would like. The basketball coach at Morgan County has won over 150 games and 8 assorted championships but does not posses a school lap top computer or projector to take home. Our football coaching position is granted that upon their wish. Also the basketball program is allotted (2) paid coaches while most schools have 3-4 paid positions. Morgan County football is allotted (6) paid assistant coaches (the same number of paid assistant coaches at Louisville Trinity which operates over 100 football players to Morgan County's 30-40 on the large end). Morgan County football coach does have say-so in football from K-12 at Morgan County and Coach Wood did what he wanted to with the middle school program as far as implementation of a system, style, etc. Morgan Co. basketball coach after 7 years of wishes of doing this is now only in his 1st year of full control of the middle school program. Could someone now tell me (with facts) that administrative support is greater in basketball than in football. Remember, FACTS speak a lout louder and clearer than vague assumptions only heard through the grapevine or from a disgruntled party whose M.O. in life is looking for blame. Think about it. Morgan County football will be brighter and the outlook is better and in the coming days, several very qualified individulas will be interviewed, evaluated, and then one will be selected and told "enjoy your program" and hope to build championship success....the city of West Liberty and Morgan County in general is starving for that success it knows it can enjoy on the football field and there is some great talent coming up! The new coach will develop how he likes and all the while, gets to push the buttons and see the fruits of their labor with improvements in our teams and facilitiles looming, the new coach will put their stamp on all of those possibilities FIRST. It's their program.
  17. Where are some of you people getting your information from? Do you think that the "so-called-administration" supports basketball more than football financially? Do you want me to provide dollar figures, merchandise, and proof? I can do that if you wish. The propoganda and 2nd hand information flowed along by irritated people or tertiary parties of Morgan County athletics is hilarious. It's almost as if people do not want anyone to come here, so they make up senseless things to say and look for someone to blame.
  18. Morgan Co. was in favor of doing a girls double header on Monday (split session) with single boys games on Tue/Wed. Girls championship on Thursday and Boys Championship on Friday. Having 1 night of DH is better than having 2 nights of DH with over-flow crowd. Get there early is the best advice. It should still be a great atmosphere and fun all around. Another piece of advice...wear short sleeves...I majorly over-dressed back in the regular season and swore I saw pink elephants flying it was so hot. It's going to hot, wild, and a whole lot of fun.:dancingpa
  19. Elliott Co. has a beautiful state of the art performing arts center and the gesture to have closed circuit TV will be nice...however, I just don't see fans wanting to drive to Sandy Hook to pay $7 to watch TV in a room...most people will want to cram in the gym so they can yell and cheer their teams.
  20. There is some news. While Morgan County will still be accepting applications I would imagine over the next 7-10 days, within this time, the existing applicants will be screened and then interviews will be set up. Maybe 7-8 interviews coming up in the next couple of weeks.
  21. Tonight's Boyd County at Morgan County game has been cancelled and be rescheduled for a later date that has yet to be determined. There has been a large and multiple water line breaks in the city of West Liberty. Can a moderator please sticky this thread to the top for everyone to see this bulletin? Thanks Nets
  22. Coach Wood is the most honest man I have ever come in contact with. Will not just tell you what you want to hear...will tell you the truth...players, coaches, parents, and fans. I just wonder if his radio show at West Jessamine (if they have one) could possibly be as funny and energetic as his show was here...please ask him, for those that may ever see him, to give some examples...you will crack up. Very articulate and intelligent, for a BALD guy;)
  23. Offensively the Triple Option....fit very well at Morgan and was not an offense that was ever totally stopped. In three years, only scored less than 2 TD's (2) times. That is quite an amazing stat. Very fundamentally sound...Morgan was excellent especially at blocking along the perimeter and down field stalk blocking with their receivers. Was funny watching teams try to blitz them. They will throw it and be effective also.
  24. East Carter is #2.
  25. Mark Scenters I think is the name. Quality person and very deserving of that job at Madison Southern.
