I would have to agree with you HoopDR. It's true that great programs attract talent, but I know for a fact that Toyota has been a draw in the past for some players families. I won't name names here, because it's really not for the best as we all know many of the names already. With that said I still have a great deal of respect the Scott County program and all they have done under Coach Billy Hicks.

1. Raceland: From what I saw this Summer were quite talented, but of course that is Summer basketball. I believe Scott Floyd's Rams will be adding a 63rd district title this year, there first since a freshman name Cam Thoroughman led them to title. Of course that freshman grew into a 6'7"+ guard who is now a Redshirt-Freshman for Huggins at WVU. 2. Lewis County: With the return of Joe "Mr. March" Hampton assured the Lions return enough to compete for a district title, but the 63rd is just way down by in comparison to previous seasons. 3. Russell: A tough year for the "Dodd Squad" losing the bulk of there scoring to graduation, but with a break or two who knows? 4. Greenup County: An absolute mess is what Coach Leach walks into, turmoil plenty here, but he seems to be willing to fight through it. I wish him a ton of luck.

Well Shooter it's not so much kids leaving Fairview, but the football turmoil, may have a negative effect on the basketball season.

1. Hager Easterling (East Carter) - 1st class individual and in my view worked as hard as anyone to establish a program in the "shadow" of Hop's Lady Comets. In the long run he took East Carter to a level where they gained just as much respect. 2. Von Perry (West Carter) - Another class act as she took the reins from long time mentor Hop Brown after he lost his battle with his illness. Von has been able to maintain West Carter to be a top tier program, but as Hop wanted I believe, the West Carter program has raised the bar for the 16th Region and girls basketball in the region is better for it. 3. Pete Fraley (Boyd County) - As good as a X and O's guy in the region and truly has a passion for winning. Fraley is one of those coaches who has been able to transfer the energy he had for the boys game as player and coach (Much like Hager Easterling did) to girls basketball. That's my Top 3 I personally believe this group is top notch, no offense to the rest, but in many ways this group is way ahead of the rest of the group.

Politics are politics anywhere you go. Its a shame that our education systems seem to be ate up by so much political nonsense these days. I've expierenced enough in my time and I wish all parties good luck in this situation.

It seems to me that Rex is only warming the seat for Nate McPeek to get enough expierence so he can slide over into the head position. Uncle Gary McPeek never takes a job without an agenda, or so it seems. Just ask the people at Hazard, East Carter, Greenup County, Russell, Lawrence County, and Boyd County. I don't think that I've left off any of McPeek's stops, but if he holds the current pattern he'll be gone at Fairview in 3-4 years.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hall family. I got to know them very well when their son Brian played balled summer ball for a team that I was working with and got to know Travis through the years as well. I truly feel for them and I know the whole 16th Region area feels the same. RIP in Travis, I guess God needed another great baseball player and even better person for his team.

So sorry I forgot that one district title. I guess it used to be almost a given we used to win those titles, it used to be a matter of contending for a trip to Rupp.

Also Slick let me remind you my friend it takes someone to cultivate talent and with a school the size of GC there is always going to be talent. The bottomline is that it's left up to the coach to beat the bushes and get the best kids on the floor. That was the strong point of Ward and the downfall of his predecessors overall.

Success since he has left. I don't know how you measure success Zippi, but 0 District titles and 0 region titles and only 2 trips to the region as a runner-up. I measure success differently I guess.

Tracy "Big Jack" Claxon, may he rest in peace. He played center on the 16th Region Championship team at Greenup County in 1991. A true workhorse, in every sense of the word, undersized to play center at around 6'3" or so, but led the Musketeers to the title and a first round state tourney win over a good Belfry team led by JJ Hylton. "Big Jack" went on to play at Shawnee State, but left us all too soon when he died in a tragic accident in the summer of 1996. It was "eerie" that the Musketeers went on to Rupp in 1997 being led at center by Claxon's cousin Jimmy Tackett who wore the same number (44) as his fallen relative. According to many Tackett even resembled Claxon and like his cousin Jimmy made the All-Tournament team at KHSAA "Sweet Sixteen." RIP in "Big Jack" you are still missed to this day by many.

Yes, Jay GC did have a solid program and I think I know why. As a matter of a fact anyone from the 16th Region knows the reason, but that ship has sailed. I just don't think GC will reach that level again, but good luck to Coach Leach he seems like a nice guy.

Steve Skaggs is a good choice for Greenup County, but you have to include an All-American in the discussion in Mike Scott. If he would've stayed at Wake Forest, I really beleive he would've been one of the better players to play for the Demon Deacons. Just like so many other players from the eastern part of the state they seem to get "homesick" and make their way back to the Bluegrass.

Well I guess the only player that comes to mind that was recruited by UK and other major D-1 schools in the 16th Region was Mike Scott at GC. Not too many other "major" D-1 talents in the 16th in the last 20-30 years. Of course OJ and Billy could be added to that category, but then again they were just middle schooler's while residing in the 16th Region. I wish Dakotah and Chad the very best and the whole Rose Hill program. I have a ton of respect for Coach Tim Fraley and what he went through in the early days of his tenure at "The Hill." He took some serious lumps early on, but now he and the program are moving towards the forefront of not only the 16th, but they are raising eyebrows across the Bluegrass.

Yes Congrats to my friends in Johnson County and my ol' friend Shawn Hall and his Golden Eagles on another trip to Applebee's. Hope to get a chance to see them and the boys from Greenup play this coming week in LEX.

maybe I'm wrong but according to MLB.com the only Justin Moore that was selected was a Justin Moore from Virginia, by the Orioles. Unless Moore is now calling Va. home it's not the same one.

I too have known Robbie and his family for several years. I wish him the very best and I'll always remember him as the little kid with glasses and a basketball in his hand. He has grown into a tremendous player and great kid, where every he goes after high school I wish him well.

I would agree and never count out Lewis over Greenup County as the game is being played in Vanceburg. Coach Joe Hampton of Lewis seems to get more out of less more often than not.

I would agree with Buddy Biggs, I think he has done an outstanding job, but a very close second has to go to Tim Fraley at Rose Hill. Biggs has made players like Coleman and Bonner believe they are better players as I believe those two especially Coleman has been the glue to hold the Tomcats together at times.

Then you must have not watched the whole second half. It wasn’t true posting in the sense he was on the block like a big man, but he had Elliott's smaller guards sealed off. I personally believe as I said earlier on this post or another that Elliott fans need to get over this who Rodney Dangerfield, "No Respect" angle. Elliott County basketball and its players are respected by those who matter, opposing players and coaches. So let's just move along.
