The kids are doing the best they can, but what could've been a promising season has hit the skids. Now that's not saying that they can't get it back, but that is a difficult task being that it is February and the postseason is coming closer and closer. I do wish the best to these kids as I fully understand the situation they are in. This whole situation could've been avoided by the administrators this past summer, by simply not rehiring the coach, but now he is a tenured teacher and can dig in for what ever is to come. Needless to say this team that had (has) great potential continues to have a major uphill battle. So with that said I wish them the best.

That is true now that I think about it. I have a friend in the western half of the state who is Vice-Principal and also head coach of the golf team and track. But, I guess those are just minor sports and don't matter when it comes to the Big 3 (Football, Basketball, and Baseball) in the eyes of administrators.

yes there have been examples when federal agencies have came in to clean up school systems. Currently it is going on in the Fayette County , WVa. schools. I can asure you it would certainly be interesting what a group like this could find in the GC Schools.

Then you obviously don't realize the politics of GC schools. The fact is that both the AD and Super can leave at any time as they are both past retirements. Neither one of them have a thing to lose at this point. It's much like when a lame duck president is in his final term, he'll make appointments and pardons that end up just ticking off the incoming party. Seriously I truly believe that the whole GC system needs an enema to flush it out of all the political corruption. I would not be surprised if a federal/state agency rears its head here soon in Lloyd.

Jon VanHoose led the way for the Devils with 29 points, which would include seven 3-pointers. I don't know about you but you might want to guard the kid if no one else. I'll be darn if I ever would let one kid beat me, contrary to Rupp’s philosophy on Pistol Pete. I think VanHoose is the motor for this team and if you stall him the Russell machine stalls.

I know Craig and I wish him the best I hope that he can accomplish all he can where ever he may eventually land, because I don't think that he can go without coaching basketball long. Here's to wishing him well.

That is exactly what I told Jay in a PM a couple hours ago. Great minds think alike. Of course I'm not so sure about Mills as the head coach either.

I hear that it's Sutton who has been named interim coach, but Jay as I told you in a PM that doesn't necessarily mean that he is the man there for good.

No complete conformation, but from a true insider it is positively true he is no longer coach and one of the asst. coaches is now Interim Head Coach. I don't believe that the GC schools can fire him from his teaching position as he has obtained tenure status.

Yeah, but magically the following two coaches after Ward thought that talent would just drop out of trees at GC. The truth is to have a program you must take chances on some players others would pass up, case and point Tracy "Big Jack" Claxon (RIP). He was a rawboned player from one of the most rural parts of the county and in reality wasn't the most talented player to come through the program, but ended up being an All-State player. Sure there is always "talent" in a large county school, but you must be willing to cultivate it in order to be successful.

The problem with firing him now is, if and that is a big IF Hicks has enough info to back all of his points, then the school system (and the tax payers in the GC School System) stand to lose a great deal. I don't know if I would fire him right now or not. That just opens the gate for Hicks to come out firing now as his legal team has advised him until now not to talk. This is going to be an interesting weekend for sure.

Let’s hope for the sake of the fans in Sandy Hook that the young Lions don't have one of those traditional post All 'A' flops. In the past Elliott seems to have had some hangovers from playing in the small school state championships. Last year they didn't make and thus had more hunger and desire leading to reaching the 16th region title game. You can't help but root for the Lions as their fans are some of the most dedicated around.

The truth is that there was no smoke, but just as smoke screen that was set up by the administrators. As far as Hicks goes I don't know the whole situation, but believe me "Jay" the Ward situation is totally different. So your old adage holds no weight with him as the smoke was merely and illusion created by his detractors.

I heard that he was offered the chance, but with no chance of returning next season. I'm sorry Jay, but I believe that he wants to be the coach of the GC basketball program, not just the coach of the moment.

The problem beyond the 3 game skid is that the Musketeers are now hitting a tough part of the schedule. They have some tough games ahead aside from their three losses and Russell. Next week will tell you a lot about the Musketeers as the face East Carter, Ashland, and Raceland. That is a tough one as the latter two are on the road.

As a matter of a fact it is the same school system with the same political; nonsense. That was Coach Randy Ward and he was subsequently rehired and fired again after the 2000 season. He was fired by a prior superentedent who had a son who played for him and she held a private vendetta against Ward since her son's playing days. The reason behind his firing was given as "aiding" as student by getting his grades changed to get him eligible. The facts are that this was never proven and said student was actually enrolled in a correspondence course to gain eligibility after moving from out of the area. In reality students do correspondence all the time in order to graduate early or gain eligibility. Most people after seven years now realize that Ward's dismissal was a huge politically motivated cooked up scheme that has effected the school not only athletically, as the school spirit is no were near the same when he was leading the Musketeers deep into the post season each year. I always found it amazing that even though he had his share of detractors, they were all there cheering his teams on and jumping on the bandwagon come March.

I don't believe that he will be reinstated and at this point I don't think he would be very successfully at restoring this team. I truly believe that the Musketeers could've been a contender, but now they are suffering irreversible damages. It is shame these kids have been put through this and if I was Hick's I'm not sure if I would want to come back to the current situation as I believe that he is in a no win situation. He will constantly be berated by the same outside forces and in reality he has no stability and will not be welcomed back. Unfortunately the players all realize this and that is a shame, because I really believe that Coach Hicks had the GC program turned back in the right direction.

No upset here, I believe that the Musketeers have succumbed to the pressures of all the controversy and they will play with some emotion being it is Russell, but they will still fall to the Devils by at least 8 points.
