I'm not sure how much $$ it would take or where it would come from. They need to start by moving or replacing the football stadium and team room IMO. When prospective coaches are interviewed, most want to see the facilities. The current setup is embarrassing. But, this situation is where a good, energetic coach who wishes to be a part of building something they can be proud of can help make that happen. If it remains the same, I'm afraid the job will attract only those looking for a start to a career and moving on. It's up to the community and school to change it. Build something you can all be proud of.

Too many of today's young coaches have an "I want it now " mentality. Some are lucky enough to walk into established programs. But, not many. Wins will do wonders for support, and that's happened a few times. But, with Morgan Co. nobody's stuck around long enough make a committment to improve the program. They've used the Raiders as stepping stone to other jobs. Maybe the task is just too overwhelming for head coaches.

What part of the administration are we talking about? It's easy and convenient to lump them all together but, surely everyone is not against the football program. Who is it that is NOT offering their support? School Board, Supt., Principal, AD,? And why?

Being a good player in the past doesn't mean he will be a good coach. I'm sure he probably knows his X's and O's, but where is his coaching experience? I don't think he has coached above Grade School level before being put in this position. You have to gain expereince in dealing with HS players, parents, teachers, counselors, grades, paperwork, meetings, etc. He was doomed to fail IMO.

I heard the kids who have quit did so because of Coach Banks, not the administration. The superintendent was the one who put Banks in as Head Coach (because of political connections).

I think Breathitt Co. has run this type offense for several years and has been pretty successful with it.

I agree. Hazard definitely belongs in this group. Meehan always has a competitive team.

I'm not sure Breathitt will be that low. They didn't play any seniors last year and probably start only one this year. The only thing that keeps them from being in the top 5 is coaching,IMO. Looking at your top 5, they all have veteran, dedicated coaches who have created or inherited established programs.

Maybe Breathitt Co. is paying attention and upgrades their schedule in the future. I thought Belfry's schedule was pretty tough.

I can remember being at a few games when the smoke from the cannon and the fog rolling in off the river behind the visitors side made visibility a problem. Can't remember what games or years though. A mind is a terrible thing to lose!

What time does Breathitt practice?

Good job on providing the stats. Interested to know WHERE these games were played to see if home field played a role.

Breathitt by a bunch. But, I'm afraid their weak schedule hasn't prepared them for what lies ahead.

Agreed!! It is absolutely embarassing when teams with 0-10, 1-9, records get in the playoffs. Our neighboring states HAVE to be LTAO. Come on KHSAA, fix this.

I agree. What can possibly be gained (other than $$) by playing some of these playoff games. Embarassing defeats just to say you got to the playoffs?Ohio playoff system is determined mostly by strength of schedule, and wins. Not perfect, but workable.

I agree Rambler. This win shows that they definitely are a serious contender in 3A.

Congrats to the players AND the coaches! All the work and time has finally paid off. Now, build on it.

It's hard to get a good, objective read on Breathitt. I only see Lex. Christian as a challenge the rest of regular season. Not a real tough schedule. Defense has been surprising and the Bobcats are still pretty young and getting better. My concern is whether the key players playing both ways can can stay healthy. Still a force in the East, IMO.

What's led to such a dismal start for GRC? Was this supposed to be a "down year" for them?
