Breathitt Co. 46 LCA 28

Featured Replies

Final.

Any more details on this game?

It appears LCA has alot of improving to do defensively to compete for the 1A title, this is the second time in 3 weeks they have been lit up by a balanced offensive team.

Good win for the Bobcats. Its always nice to get a W from a solid Lexington school.

Nice job, Bobcats...

Heard the LCA coach on the post-game radio show last night. He was especially impressed with Breathitt's passing game - likened it to college kids running a college scheme.

Tough loss for LCA. I thought that this one would be a tough, close game with LCA winning. LCA will bounce back, I am sure of that. Their coach is one of the best and their kids play hard.

Congrats to Breathitt Co. on the win, very impressive and imo puts Breathitt in the conversation with Belfry and Russell for the (best in 3A - eastern part of state).

I agree Rambler. This win shows that they definitely are a serious contender in 3A.

Breathitt's QB was VERY good: strong runner, great passer, ran the option well. All of Breathitt's runners were hard to bring down, and twisted for extra yardage. They were very well coached. Their receivers were fast and consistently got behind LCA's secondary.

Mental mistakes hurt LCA: Opening onside kickoff to LCA was muffed; 4th & 1 was mishandled, drawing a delay penalty.

A recurring theme is that the Defense needs improving in order to truly compete at the elite level of 1A play. I heard during the post-game show that 3 (4?) starters on defense did not play football last year. That kind of inexperience will only be overcome over time.

Special Teams again were good last night. Kickoffs consistently either went into the endzone or resulted in the opponent starting around their 20.

Punts were outstanding.

Kickoff return for a TD by LCA.

Except for the muffed onside kickoff (mishandled by a lineman ;) ) special teams continue to excel.

And what can I say about Dominique Hayden? Rarely did Breathitt stop Hayden at the line of scrimmage, even when they knew he was getting the ball inside the tackles.

Our line did a good job, but I noticed that most times Hayden would be hit within 0-2 yards of the line of scrimmage, yet still gain 3-5 yards or more; and almost always carrying several Breathitt defenders with him.
