Should be a great game in 3A. Thoughts and predictions.

Breathitt is the favorite in this game, but really haven't been tested. Russell, on the other hand, has been tested in several games this year. I have to give the edge to Breathitt, but it wouldn't surprise me if Russell won.

Why do you think Breathitt is the favorite? I don't disagree with you. I think Russell will be the underdog until they win out or get beat.

I think Russell actually is at an advantage in this game. Besides being at home they have been tested as was stated earlier. It reminds me in a way of the 2004 Russell team. That team was never tested all year until they ran into Belfry in the semifinals. When they did they got worn down by a more physical team that had been tested by a tougher schedule that year.

 

Also sometimes scores can be misleading. Russell's offense is very good. It is not the quick strike spread that Breathitt has been putting up big numbers with. It is an offense that can shorten games. Russell winning by 3 TDs is a huge margin. Its just style of play.

Not to mention that that 2004 Belfry team was one of the best 2A teams I have ever seen. LOL!!!

I see this as a classic matchup between two teams with entirely different schemes. In the end I think Russell's ability to control the football and the home field advantage decide the game.

I'm not comparing teams. I'm comparing situations. Russell breezed through the regular season and the playoffs until that point in 2004. Having some tough games under your belt does nothing but help.

 

I think it will be very tight. I hope it ends differently than the last time though.

The only way this game could be similar is on the scoreboard......

Neither one of these teams is anywhere near the talent level of those two teams that year, and I'm not trying to knock either of this years teams. Those Russell and Breathitt guys in 2002 were GOOD! I actually went to the Mason-Russell game Friday night, and I wasn't that impressed with either team. Mason passed easily on Russell when they actually did throw the ball, and I assure you that Fugate is a better QB than no. 10 for Mason was. Also, Breathitt's line and backs are much bigger and more athletic than Mason's. I look for Breathitt to have a little better passing game than Mason did and a much better running game than Mason. With that said, I'll take Breathitt Co. by a score of 34-28, only because of the history between these two and the fact it's at Russell, otherwise I think Breathitt wins by more.
