Jeepman, you have to say that was a great game, Russell played well, Justin Haddix had his worse first half of season, but Breathitt Co.Bobcats never let up and came back and a missed field goal was the differance.Russell had maybe the best kicker in state and i don't think had missed an extra point all year ,till then.

When teams win Championships usually there is a little luck involved in it also, talent is important but luck has its part of the season also.

Boy Howdy. That was one of the most exciting games I have seen. Keep in mind one of the reasons Haddix had a bad first half was he had Number 1 from Russell in his backfield chasing him. I have no idea why we went into a prevent defense that night and stopped Number 1 from chasing him. It is was it is. A great come back by the Bobcats.

Luck. If you are not lucky along the way it is not going to happen.

We look forward to hosting this big game. I'm sure the young men will put on a great show for all of us to remember.

As a fairly new Russell football fan (about 3 years) I have a stupid question. What is the Hank??

Henry R. Evans Stadium. Some call it "The Hank".

Jeepman, that's what is all about these young athletes bring us so much joy to watch, cause we know someone is going to loose, and i do believe these two programs(Russell and Breathitt Co.) and Belfrey are top of the line programs in mountains, we none of us want to loose but i will support any of East teams if they go to State for Championship in 3-A, as i say i am always for our mountain teams. We do look forward to being at this fine school (Russell) for an exciting game. See you there.

That 2002 game was probably the most exciting and eplosive atmosphere that I have ever been apart of. I will definatley give props to the whole defense of Russell. They had some real studs that year on defense. I will still say to this day that they where the best defense I have ever seen Breathitt go against. That is saying something, I'v watched Breathitt play pretty much every game dating back to 1995 and have never seen a more physical defense. Justin did have one of his worst games that night, but mostly because of the schemes that Russell was running. The best part was not only was Russell very well coached, but they where a very classy bunch of kids. After the game, I was down on the field and run into your guys best tailback, (Gross I think) and he was very polite. I told him that he had nothing to drop his head about because he had just played one heck of a ball game. I am excited to see this game between 2 of Eastern Kentucky's finest coaches. See you guys there.

Thanks for the nice comments regarding that team. Gross was a soph. that year. I think once again win or loose you will find the same type of Russell young men.

I take it you didn't watch Breathitt vs. Boyle in 1996? :D

That is easily the best defense (and team, IMO) Breathitt County has faced from 1990 thru the present...

My family will be in town from the Midwest and we are all excited for the game. Breathitt folks have a safe trip coming up the road and we'll see you on Friday.

Good job on providing the stats. Interested to know WHERE these games were played to see if home field played a role.

I can't speak for the first four, but the last four have been in Jackson.

If I'm not mistaken, in 1989, Breathitt blasted Russell (38-7, maybe), in the regular season game that year and then barely beat them in the playoffs...in fact, they were quite lucky to get that win, IMO.

The 1995 game was no match.

The 1996 was a tight one, but just like every other tough game that year, the Bobcat defense would not allow them to lose. Just a really great defensive team in 1996...the offense was getting a lot of attention at that time because they'd switched to the spread and was having success, but the defense was a much, much better unit in 1996.

2002 was another great game. Russell lead 21-6 with around 10 minutes to play, but Breathitt gutted it out, tied it and won in OT.

Hopefully, 2007 will bring us another memorable game.

I haven't been able to follow Breathitt and high school football as much as I used to, or would like, so I'm just making an educated guess here. My gut tells me that Russell will win a competitive football game on Friday night. I hope I'm wrong. I certainly think either team is capable of winning.

Looking forward to going to the game on Friday. It'll be my first game of the season, though

I have been keeping up fairly regularly. Hope to see a packed house - it sounds like the

sterling new radio crew has caused some people to stay at home and listen to the games there...

This should be a goody. I don't remember the last time I saw Russell as the underdog at

home (perhaps the last time Belfry came to town?), so I suppose that says a lot about

Breathitt.

Russell might be the underdog and thats okay. Russell is usually the underdog anytime they play Belfry, Breathitt, Owensborough Cath., Mercer/Harrodsburg. I think Russell was the underdog when we played Mason County. It might have to do with points scored in the regular season. You will rarely see Russell score in the 50's. Where the other teams mentioned do it more often. Russell likes to play ball control and "keep away". It works. At least it did in 2005.

Devils are no underdog at home unless Bobcats can control lines of scrimmage .... Devils win unless Breathitt plays very physical football - sideline to sideline and nose guard to run support safeties .....

Really like Devils in this ....

HUH

I don't think you can decide an underdog after the game starts. If Breathitt controls the line of scrimmage in the game the underdog switches from Breathitt to Russell. Huh. Maybe the under dog can change during the game.

I don't think the Devils will ever be a true under dog any time they play at home. Even when we played a 6-A team this year we were not really the under dog. Now if we played some one like Trinity or any other top private school we would be the under dog.

My point , want someone from Breathitt to let me know about their lines and how physical they play. To beat the Devils , at home have to be physical. Passing games outside at night on a strange field will not get it done .... One dimensional teams also will not beat the Devils unless they can manhandle like Belfry did in '04.

Again really like where this team is right now ...
