I will be in Kentucky for Thanksgiving, wanted to see Belfry play but I am not driving to Somerset.

So I will probably will be in Russell to watch this game. I have several friends from Russell so I will be cheering for them.

I am rooting for Russell...supporting the local team, but honestly think that Breathitt will prevail in this one.

Neither one of these teams is anywhere near the talent level of those two teams that year, and I'm not trying to knock either of this years teams. Those Russell and Breathitt guys in 2002 were GOOD! I actually went to the Mason-Russell game Friday night, and I wasn't that impressed with either team. Mason passed easily on Russell when they actually did throw the ball, and I assure you that Fugate is a better QB than no. 10 for Mason was. Also, Breathitt's line and backs are much bigger and more athletic than Mason's. I look for Breathitt to have a little better passing game than Mason did and a much better running game than Mason. With that said, I'll take Breathitt Co. by a score of 34-28, only because of the history between these two and the fact it's at Russell, otherwise I think Breathitt wins by more.

 

Mason's running game had been a strength for them. They hurt Russell with it the first time and that is what you saw the Russell defense geared to stop IMO. If Mason was going to win they were going to have to pass the ball to do it.

 

Cox is a very athletic QB for them and Pollitt and Thompson although not big backs, run very hard. I think Mason County has been underestimated by almost everyone all season. They returned alot from the previous year when they were in the same class AAA district with Johnson Central in Ashland. They were a very good team this year.

Russell's offensive line has been very good.

Breathitt Beat LCA 46 to 28 and I seen them and they are a better team all around. Russell does some things better. But not enough for a win, but good luck anyway.

Fairview only lost to LCA 21-14. LCA is not nearly as physical a team as Russell.

Russell's style is not flashy. They don't have the big-play RB that they have had for the last several years in Gross and Clark. They do have four guys in the backfield that can all run the ball very well. Not flashy but very effective.

Look, Dont get me wrong I hope Russell wins. But if you think LCA does not hit hard your mistaken. I seen Russell and LCA. Let me tell you this LCA team hits harder. I asked Racelands backs and thats what they said. And to I know you cant look at past games. You can only use them to conpair a little. Which really means nothing.

I never said they don't hit. What I meant is that they are rather small on the line and are not just going to push anybody around. They use speed and quickness to their advantage. I don't think the the argument that they are as big and physical as Russell will hold any water.

 

Just for comparison reagardless of how hard Raceland's back think anybody hits. I do believe Russell held Denton and Carver to fewer yards than LCA and also beat them by three TDs with all the starters playing.

Back to Russell and Breathitt. Two good teams with opposite approaches to the game. It should be interesting to watch.
