My point , want someone from Breathitt to let me know about their lines and how physical they play. To beat the Devils , at home have to be physical. Passing games outside at night on a strange field will not get it done .... One dimensional teams also will not beat the Devils unless they can manhandle like Belfry did in '04.

Again really like where this team is right now ...

From what I saw:

- Breathitt is the farthest thing froma one dimensional team you will ever see. They run the spread offense, but they run it ala Urban Meyer, where the emphasis is on the run. They use alot of shovel passes as well, and both Fugates are adept at running the ball. The QB has a nice arm and is VERY accurate when his feet are set, when he scrambles, not so much.

- Breathitt's o-line won't overwhelm you when you see them warm-up. They are what I would consider to be the typical 3A O-line in terms of looks, decent sized, deintaely no Seth Harvey's out there. But, what makes Breathitt's offense so dangerous is this o-line. They move really well and they hold their blocks for long periods of time. I was most impressed with their O-line from when I saw them.

-Breathitt's receivers have good speed and athleticism. They are nowhere near the calibur of that 2002 team though, IMO.

-Defensively, Breathitt is AGGRESSIVE. Once again, nothing overhwleming size wise, but they are very quick, they hit hard and low, and they pursue very well.

-John Chapman's defenses are usually feast or famine. He sends alot of pressure, stunts, bltizes, etc... he has no problem gambling. I saw a couple places that a good running team could exploit them, but none of that will be available if the Devil line can't get a good surge and free backs into the second level.

I take it you didn't watch Breathitt vs. Boyle in 1996? :D

That is easily the best defense (and team, IMO) Breathitt County has faced from 1990 thru the present...

I was right there for that Breathitt v/s Boyle game, the only difference was that in 1996, Breathitt had a young team that was made up of mostly sophomores. When comparing the 2002 Breathitt squad, there is no comparison when talking about a team that fielded 17 seniors that had the most explosive offense in the state of Kentucky that year. Boyle was fundamentally sound, but they didn't hit you like that 02 Russell squad. Russel's Linebackers that year where as good as any collective group, that Iv'e ever seen at this level. Our 1996 offense was good, but not as dangerous as 02 offense.

EKU .. Thanks for some real info ... Size wise sounds like Corbin last year , not big but had football players that would hit you ... Looking forward to good game ... If they swarm to the football you can tie up wing t for awhile ... Really looking forward to seeing Breathitt O . A 3a team with real balance and execution will be a challenge...

Totally understand. Breathitt may be very good in all aspects of the game. Russell is also very good. I do have a gut feeling Russell is a little more physical than Breathitt.

Prediction:

One player that we don't talk much about is John Cornwell the nose guard. John has has been playing very well lately. I see John having a big game and going home with a smile on his face after he sacks the QB twice in key situations. Jones will have a career night on both sides of the ball. The Running backs? Who knows? They are all very good and love contact. Breathitt can't key on all of them. Russell's defense. Morris will have them ready for this one. He is one of the best defensive minds in High School Football. Look for Russell to make some big stops on third down. Turnovers. We have already had our quota for the year so we will hold onto the ball.

Russell 35

Breathitt 28

Breathitt is the 2nd best team I've seen this year and by far the most talent packed. If they come to play Russell will need every trick Ivan McGlone has.Russell has a good team,no doubt, but they're not as loaded as they usually are. This shows Ivan's ability as a coach and Russell players heart is unmatched, but it'll take all they have in this one.

Prediction:

Breathitt and Russell have two completely different types of physicality. Russell's physicality comes in their ability to utilize their size and strength to muscle people around, they are also a phsyical offense with numerous elad blocks and backs that will run over instead of around you.

Breathitt's physicality comes from the meeting of quickness and good textbook tackling. The Bobcats fly around and will light up anyone that is standing straight up.

The best way to describe it, Breathitt will punch you, but Russell will wrestle you.

The '02 Russell defense wasn't close to what Boyle County had in '96. The competition Breathitt faced in the playoffs in '95 (Erlanger Lloyd, Danville, Franklin-Simpson) and '96 (Boyle County and Fort Knox) was far superior to the 2002 Russell team.

The teams Breathitt County fielded in 1995 and 1996 were easily the best they ever had. They proved it against much stiffer competition, IMO...the 2002 was a great team, but they also benefitted from a very weak year for 2A football...Russell was the only thing close to a very good team that they played that year, and like I said, they weren't at the same level as some of the competition from the first two title seasons. Breathitt's entire playoff run in 1996 (Erlanger Lloyd had won their district but had to forfeit games so we basically had to play the best team in that district in round 1, then Russell, then Newport, then Boyle, then Fort Knox)...IMO, a few of those teams were significantly better than the 2002 Russell team and the rest of them were at or near the same level.

Just my opinion...

Dont really see what any of this has to do with this years 2 teams,it is hard to compare teams from different years.Just give these kids this year the credit they deserve......It is about like comparing a 1962 corvette to a 2007 corvette, they all have there qualities.Good luck to both teams and hope for a injury free game,no matter who wins, they both have had a great year!

Based upon specifics from EKU and Heath this is going to be a good game .... Devils will be challenged by someone who can play the whole field on both sides of the ball ( no matter the size) , rare in 2 or 3a football. I hope both teams play their best- either will give Red Army all they want .....

Not to jinx anything, but the last two times Breathitt has played Russell as an undefeated team, they left the game with one loss.

Heard there is snow on the ground in Russell this morning.

there is, very light........

The snow should melt by game time. Although I do have about 1/2 inch on the ground in flatwoods.

Breathitt Co 36 Russell 7.

:laugh:Someone has been hitting the juice a little early.......:thumb:
