  1. I never said anything about a zone defense (it is harder to rebound out of a zone) and I really don't have sour grapes. I know that Rowan was better than the team I support. As for anything else I said on this thread, tell me what I said that was inaccurate. First paragraph: Fact. Doesn't mean it can't happen but generally doesn't. Second paragraph: Rowan was the best in the 16th region night in and night out. Rowan is undersized but not outmanned. Third paragraph: 16th was definitely down this year. Rowan would not have beaten Rose Hill, Russell, or probably East last year. That would have made them the 4th best team last year. So, where is the half I don't know based on my observations?
  2. All the Kentucky haters can whine & moan all they want...The Cats are in the Big Dance whether you like it or not and in a few years they will be back to kicking your favorite teams' butts year in and year out...
  3. Stick a fork in Florida...They're done!!!
  4. Exactly...Don't care how good your position is...6'3" doesn't need to go over the back of 5'5"...Nice to see that not get called for a change... Rowan had a nice year and I felt that night in and night out they were the best the 16th had to offer...Coach Tackett was quoted as saying they were outmanned and undersized all year...I will agree with undersized but they had more depth than most in the 16th region...Can't agree with outmanned... Again, Rowan had a good season in an overall down year in the 16th...They had a nice team but would have probably been no better than #4 in the region last year...
  5. Must have been having a caveman moment when I wrote that.
  6. I really want Ashland to win but am feel that Rowan is going to win by 10.
  7. That would seem to be the logical thing to do but we are not dealing in logic. This is Kentucky basketball & the last thing the fans are is logical. What's amazing to me is how up in arms some get over something as silly as new uniforms. Get a life people!!!
  8. Then do some work on the floor and lighting at Weatherby and that would create the atmosphere everyone seems to miss...Pack em in!!! Always talking about no home court advantage. How do all the other regions survive like the 10th?? I'm not from Boyd or Greenup but I would be happy with those 2 alternating years.
  9. Bath Co had a great year finishing 20 - 5. Good Luck to the seniors. :thumb: That final game is always tough on them.
  10. Raceland had a great year in Scott Floyd's 1st season. Just ran into a buzzsaw tonight. Good luck to the seniors. :thumb: Always tough on them.
  11. Congrats to Ashland. :thumb: Hard to ever count them out come tournament time.
  12. I expected East to win by 15 but thought it would happen late. This one was over early.
  13. I agree FishTie, the positives far outweigh the negatives. Coaches know the officials too well by the end of the season and this also takes away the question of friendships or "former roomates". What I saw last night in the 16th region tournament would have had the coaches going nuts had that been our own officials. I am not saying the officiating was bad, it wasn't and it had no bearing on the outcome of either game IMO, it was just that they allowed a much more physical game than we normally see. Rather than complaining about the many no calls that went both ways the coaches and players simply adjusted. I did not see the coaches riding the officials like I feel they would have had these been 16th region officials. I personally like going outside for the region tournament. Now, with that said, for those in attendance both nights it has to answer the question of the quality of officiating in our region vs other regions. I have said it numerous times on here and in the public, the 16th region's top officials are as good as any other region in the state. With the exception of 1 or 2 disgruntled posters from the 9th region, it appears that their fans are very pleased with the officials they have received from the 16th. I attend the state tournament every year and get to see what other regions have to offer. Our's are as good as any. Anyone in attendance at the girls 16th region tournament the first 2 nights would have to agree. If the boys games are called the same as the girls they will hopefully see this as well and certain posters who constantly berate the officiating in the 16th will understand that the grass isn't necessarily greener on the other side. It's just a different shade of green.
  14. I spoke to someone today who was at the game with no ties to either school who said it was a well officiated game and one of the better games he had seen all year. With that said, 2 of the officials on that game will be calling in the state tournament next week. Not bad to get 2 state tournament officials on the same first round region game.
  15. What are your qualifications to be a judge of coaching talent?? Isn't it a little unfair to judge their coaching ability based on the situations they have been put in the last 2 years?? I have spoken with numerous coaches and former coaches who feel Coach Smith has done fine under the circumstances this year and that Nathan Sutton has a bright future as a young up and coming coach. I trust their opinions much more than someone who hides behind a computer and spouts off.
  16. If I'm not mistaken the 16th region has sent 2 officials to the girls state tournament the last 3 years. Marla had the championship game last year and Billman had the semi-final and was slated for the final had Rose Hill not made it to the finals the previous year so he was not a first year official to a state tournament last year. Not sure what happened 3 years ago at the girls state tourney but for the last 2 the 16th has been well represented with more than 2 games called by the refs they provided. BTW, I hope you guys that are "bashing" Billman watch your speed when you travel through Lewis Co. on the AA highway!!
  17. Poor little ol' coach Hicks...Seems like no matter where he goes he gets picked on... Why is everyone so jealous of him that they always have to try and think up ways to bring him down??
  18. I will not speak for Spindoc but I will say that I was struck by the post the exact same way he was. I had no problem believing a 30" vertical but my first reaction to the 4.5 forty time was exactly the same as his. You see a lot of people claim 4.4 or 4.5 forties when the reality is about a 4.7 (which is certainly nothing to be ashamed of). Probably less than 5% of high school athletes run faster than 4.7 in the 40. Like Spindoc said, quickness is much more important in basketball than a 4.5 forty. Ferguson can certainly play the game and I am sure if he stays healthy and wants to play after high school he will have the opportunity whether he runs a 4.5 forty or not. Good luck to him!! :thumb:
  19. Big win for Bath. IMO they are now in the Top 3 in the region.
