The athletic programs have never seem to take off there. Must not be real important to the administration or the communities.

They did make one trip to Rupp Arena in basketball, but I do agree with you. Progress has been slow. Keep in mind that East Ridge drew from three schools with limited historical success in athletics (save for Elkhorn in basketball and football way back). Feds Creek, Elkhorn City and Mullins didn't even field that many teams. Many of the kids are learning the game as much as competing.

Mullins wasn't affected by the East Ridge consolidation. Those kids attend Pike Co Central.

Millard is who i think you meant GCHS....

And you are hitting a very valid point, in mountain sports your high school team is only as hood as your feeder system. Another critical point that must be hit is the ammount of turnover the Warriors have had with their coaching positions in most sports since the school's inception, for that matter the turnover with the entire school and administration. I am a firm believer that the reason that the dominating factor in most moutnains chool's football struggles dealsdireclt with instability at the head coach.

Until a coach can not only instill his system in place at the feeder school level, but have the chance for those players to reach the high school level, it is a moot point to expect anything less than mediocrity. Alot of these ER players have only been playing football for a handful of years or less, and during that time they have had no sconsistent scheme to learn to play, whena new coach come along, not only do the players ahve to learn all new plays and schemes, but they also have to learn brand new terminology. Compare this to a Belfry, Breathitt County, or Bell County where the kids know their High School's respective system by the time they are in middle school, and can then focus on individual improvement and specializations.

Could perhaps the reason for both forfeits, involve participation of a student-athlete, who doesn't meet the KHSAA requirement, of the proper grade?.

Possibly, but either way I believe everyones points here are that Upper Management of the School system is going to have to show some strong interest in what is best for the Kids, not what is best for their families or friends and hire some people that is going to turn some things around and make it For the KIDS. Until then they will be an embarrasment once again.

They had some great early success in boys basketball, girls softball, and baseball.

Basketball coach left to become a principle and then they ran off his replacement who was a good coach.

In football the first football coach lasted a year, then something happened and they hired him back then he quit then now he is basketball coach.

Wrong people making wrong decisions over there................
