This is a problem I see way too often, schools/programs relying on someone in the system. Whether it is in sports or an administrative position. Sometimes, you have to go out and hire the best fit. Get away from the back alley politics of schools. I am not saying this guy is not the best for the job but look at other coaches and see what they can brinig to your program.

There is where it becomes a problem most of the time. In some areas, an umpire gets paid 55.00 a varsity game, 45 for jv. The best paying area, central ky, they get 65 per game, any level. I don't understand why some umps get paid differently when they have the same job to do. I guess next season, a lot of game will be cancelled due to NO umpires. Umpires are getting out of baseball, not much money, too long, and just as all sports, no respect.

It is a balk but now I did go back and read if indeed another umpire called time, it is not a balk. My question, who asked this ump to call time?

I judge this, if I feel that the batter had opportunity to move, very slow breaking pitch that is near the box, he stays if it hits him. Anything fast, he gets first without making the attempt to move. It does come down to judgement but the batter must make an attempt to move and I don't care, if he bends over to get the hit, it is a strike! Take one for the team my butt. I hate to hear that yelled from specs......

Balk! If the plate umpire did not grant time, the pitcher should have delivered the pitch. If he had thrown the pitch, it would have been a strike, I don't care what location it was at.

Worked a game the other night, first of all, the visitors from another region was late. That does not happen in football or basketball. Worked a mercy in the varsity and they did play a JV which was not on our check...... We played, 3 innings of 3 outs or 3 runs, whichever come first, this works great. At the end of 3, the visitor wanted to play one more to get his young players a time at bat, I had not problem. I was there, working, and I hope the kid learned something. I do see the problem because in baseball it happens. Baseball players waste more time, the game is beginning to be or is boring at all levels. As an umpire, I stick to the speed up things I can control. A lot of time is wasted in between innings when players want to huddle, talk to coaches, they have one minute or 5 tosses. Get out there and play. Much more things can be done to speed up the game, warm up catcher if the starter is getting his equipment on. Don't waste time UMPS. Yes, we do have a bigger strike zone, mine is not chin to shin more than it is from east to west on the plate. Be a pitchers ump, who wants to walk batters all day?

Well, it is their bad, as an official, count your players after any interruption or sub into the game. If this occurs as in this situation, it is a T by rule. However, some officials may just recognize this as a short period of time and there was NO advantage of having 6 on the court, I don't blame them for treating it like this. Now, if the team had scored a basket or played a period of time, then a T is warranted. This does happen a lot and think about how you would feel if you were on the receiving end of a T for a similar situation?

I traveled up to Hazard and watched this game with PCC, who was the guy who sat in the lazy boy rocker? Is he the superintendent, mayor, or what... Get a chance, check him out, he's got it made. Sitting at court side in a leather reclining, swivel, rocking chair! I kept waiting on someone to bring him supper! That's the life! The 15th guys were working and done a good job. I think they called one foul in the 3rd but that makes the game go faster.

It is not that another region is better. Here is the way it is: If you have 150 officials in that region and 35 in a smaller region, you are going to have more officials in the 150 that are better but the percentage is nearly the same. It is like that in all sports and I work all three, and reallly see this is the way it is.
